loud screech noise

hey all,

i have a very loud screech or squeel noise when driving. usually only occurs with the first 5 minutes of driving. I figure it is the timing belt that is making the noise but need some verification. What can i do to remiedy this besides replacing the belt (and water pump!) because i am broke this semester! is there a simple fix? Thanks

prolly ur alternator belt...temp fix would be to put more tension on it to tighten it up...or u can replace the belt for about 13 bucks

simple fix is a bar of soap on your belts, while the car is running hold the bar of soap to the inside of the belt and let the soap coat the belt, this will stop the noise
just don't get your hand caught in the belt, cause that might hurt

easy way to tell if its the alt belt or not is to take off the belt and if it doesn't screech anymore, get a new belt. no need to waste $13 if you dont have to... i thought my alt belt was bad and it ended up being my ****ty ass JDM water pump

buy a can of belt dressing from canadian tire, its this white sticky stuff that you spray on your belts.

turn your car on and when its making the noise, spray the belts down, if it stops when you spray it, then you know which belt it was.

yeah, timing belt wouldnt squeal like that, reason is because the belt has teeth so that it doesnt slip, the squealing u are hearing is belts slipping, so if your timing belt did squeal like that, it would mean it was slipping amd would be really really bad, i would suggest changing the timing belt before it breaks. But yeah, its most likely your alternator belt squeling away. just replace it. Its not the timing belt
