Sounds like your shift linkage. Take a look to see if the bushings are tight. You might need to replace them.

^^^^ my shifter felt loose before too. with with energy suspension polyurethane bushings when i installed my skunk2 shifter and there is zero play in the shifter now. so i'd bet on bushings. $35 for bushings

Could some please reply to this thread as I too would like to know the answer.

My cousin's 93 Si has the same issue where you can be in any gear and it feels like it's in neutral.

u prolly need to replace the collar, o-rings, washers etc...that would be numbers: 3, 4, 5, 25 and 13...u might be able to clean up number 13 and just get some new o-rings for it...the B&M short shifter kit comes with all the new bushings to tighen up that assembly

Cynical beat me to it, but he has your answer. Another member (ryanhook) had the same problem as you. He replaced all of the little parts at the bottom of the shifter and it took away all of the play in his shifter. You can get everything you need from your local Honda dealer. Just print out a copy of that diagram.

Parts #25 are rubber and wear out. And #3, 4 and 5 are plastic if I remember correctly. They become brittle and fall apart.

cynikal got it. i got my parts from proparts but i screwed up on my install and broke an important piece. i'm going to have to take the shifter out to get part number 3 in. it's a tight squeeze and i broke it by trying to hammer it in. i was in the same situation, i replaced those 2 bushings but there was still play. then i just held the shift linkage and moved it around to see where else the play was in. try it urself and see.

You should still be able to order it from Honda, or maybe just re-use your original one. The kit might just include the parts that are needed the most.

#5 is the bastard that causes this problem.

If you can't find the part at honda, let me know, i've got lots of stock civic shifters kicking around.
