Looking for help with my ZC Trany!!!!
Ok well I am about to go on my 5th ZC tranny. I have blown the diff out the back of the last four along with a Si trany. Today when I shifted in to 3rd the car made a huge bang and made the car buck real hard which even threw my rear view mirror off. I thought for sure I blew it up but it did go in to gear and 1 min later I heard and felt another bang. It has also been making a wineing sound when I down shift to stopp for the last couple weeks. Could this have something to do with it going? I am running a ZC twin cam boostin 6lbs. With the other 4 tranys I was using a centerforce dual friction clutch but I just tossed in a stock disc for now until my 6 puck ACT comes. Ok so is anyone else having this problem? If you need any more info feel free to ask. Thanx

I found most tranny problems are related to how hard you beat them up. I know a guy who just kills trannies left and right. When I saw him drive, I knew why. I bet you have the same problem. Try driving more gently, don't beat it, DRIVE it. Either that or get a custom gearbox built for you by gearspeed.com.
also, centerforce clutches and import cars don't mix well. |
The wineing sound you were hearing was likely your input shaft bearing. Failure is immenant after it goes.

Thanx guys for the input. I guess I am on the hunt for another 88 ZC Tranny.
