well get a stage 2 cam and some stiff valve springs and ti retainers, an adjustable cam gear, and maybe some headwork (port and polish, valve job) if its in the budget. Thats the biggest factor in an engine built....budget.
I built a decent engine for about $3500. I just waited until i saw deals on parts in the for sale forum and collect them over a couple of months. If buying these parts from stores new vs buying privately it costs way more from stores. There is actually someone selling a SOHC VTEC rather nicely built head, with all of the work i mentioned, for a killer price on this forum.
PM me for more info on my budget build if you'd like.
But if the budget is small then i would say get a decent header, exhaust, intake manifold and a b-series t/b because they fit d-series manifolds and are larger in diameter.

1st off: please take your time typing so we can actually read it.

2nd: STREET RACING IS BAD! dont be surprised if what you just said gets you banned

3rd: what kind of money are you looking to spend? you want to stick to minor stuff im guessing cuz you dont want to deal with tuning... maybe a nice 4-2-1 or 4-1 header, or a bigger throttle body or intake manifold...... pretty much everything else is internal, like cams, pistons, bore, P&P, etc. and these will require tuning with a computer and/or dyno

Let's see here. Your car is a 97 civic ex. I thought those came with 106 hp SOHC. hhhmm.. preludes come with 160hp DOHC.

prelude may weight more, but makes you think sometimes why you are losing.

Even a old 3rd gen prelude Si came stock with 135 - which still beats your stock d16...Pick up a y8 head and ECU. Combined with a aftermarket cam I/H/E you make as much as 135+ hp - and should fall under $1000 budget - nothing bad about that...

yes JC, that would be best.... but he said

"i just want a instal and go no tweaking this clean that dino this and other **** once its in thats it"

or in english:

"i just want to install and go. No tweaking, cleaning, or dyno (tuning). Once the part is installed, that's it."

so what other than I/H/E could he do that requires easy bolt on and no tuning??

Jay, your right, I didn't read his post thoroughly enough to see that he didn't want to get his hands dirty...

Then I will revamp what I posted...

... do a mini me with port and polish...and have b16civic do the work....

Its funny how everybody is so hardcore about STREET RACING IS BAD...

Light to light is bad

Organized street racing is something totally different.

is your car from the USA? cause you said you have a 97 ex, but under your avatar you say you have a 97 si coupe. if its either of these your car has a d16y8 motor, the y5 was only available in the hx models only, afaik.

maybe the previous motor went and the last owner (assuming you didn't buy it new) swap in a y5?
