you can drive with out the alternator at the drag strip if you have a charger on the battery while not in use... lots of teams do that...

as far as the battery goes, start looking for hawker or oddessy motorcycle battery

http://crx.honda-perf.org/articles/battrep/battrep.html

lexan is only for racecars, because it has no shattering capabilities, if it cracks or something breaks it, it will be a javalin coming right at you

Don't remove the horn - it weighs less than 2lbs and you NEED that to be legal.

BTW - you can type upper and lower case - makes thinks more friendly on the eyes..

Yes there are lexan windows made for 5th gen hatch, they cost a lot, because there are no "fake" ones on the market; unless you want to use plexiglass.

CF hatch door is available, Backyard Special is one company that makes it. There are other US based companies that make it, search on google or Honda-Tech

For light rebar, you can buy an used one from junk yard (EG in this case) and keep the mounting base but remove the actual bar and custom fab a smaller tube one. The thing is, if you look closely, the rebar is nothing but a sheet metal that was wrapped on 4 sides to form a square tube and welded at the edges. It will save you some weight, but I can say not noticeablely difference.

It is there to protect your engine component in a light crash, not you. So you are taking the risk of what's under your hood in case of the unfortunate happens. This has been debated a lot of times on Honda-Tech and document from D.O.T. (or some organization which is related to vehicles) has shown that rebar wasn't meant to serve as a device to save human being during crashes. That's what I read. If you have seen the JDM EK front rebar, it is a very small one. It is enough for the Japanese, but not for us North American drivers, maybe because we travel more highway with higher speed, hence, we need bigger rebar.

the battery is a good start, you can make the lexan rear windows yourself its not to hard to do. I think the rear 3 windows and sunroof window can be plastic and still be legal. Im not sure but this might be the case.

you need the horn to be leagal. change the steering wheel instead, that will save some weight.

you wouldent want to run your car without a alternator on the street, it will drain the battery and you will be stuck with a dead car.

I drag race with a hawker battery and no alternator and I have to charge the battery every pass. after I finish a pass the battery is at about 10.5 volts.

Take the rebar out, I had both my front and rear out when I drove on the street. just remember its not legal to have them out. if you get in a acident and your insurace company finds out you might be stuck with no coverage.

the best thing to do to put your car on a diet is take out everything you can do without. radio, speakers, spair tire, carpet, sound dedaning tar under carpet. blower motor. just get in your car and look around at what you can take out.

get a carbon fiber hood. fenders and bumpers are light so there is no point to change those. get a light flywheel, lighter wheels.

my civic was daily driven 365 days a year, rain, sun, snow storms, it weighed in at 1800lb with out me and I ran 12.7 @ 105 allmotor in street trim with a stock type R motor. I think I might have had one of the lightest civics around a few years ago.

i think the rebar is bigger in north america because of out 5mph crash test standards.

there will be no diference in damage with or without the rebar if its a big hit.
