Little help with wording
I'm looking for a dohc ZC to drop into my 00 si automatic, how would I word my WTB as far as what I actually need?
"I'm looking for a dohc ZC to drop into my 00 si automatic." I don t see anything wrong with that... ?
but you should get some opinions on the swap... |
not a good choice of swap, id stick with a Y7 if u want a non vtec replacement, OR the Y8 vtec swap. ZC dohc motors are to old, usually beat on, and hard to find in good shape. Stick with a newer motor ! good luck
I've got the y8, just looking for more torque and hp. My understanding is that this is a pretty simple swap.
i dont know the hp of the y8 but the obd1 dohc zc is only like 140 hp
A d16y8 or a yuk D17a2 would be a lot better and cost about the same as a beat on ZC. Besides you're looking at the same amount of HP from either engine.
if the info i found is accurate, my d16y8 is 127hp 107torque compared to 160hp and 117torque. Quite a bit of a difference. With my brother inlaw being a honda mech, he'll be cleaning and installing the zc for next to nothing.
wow 160.. obd1 dohc zc????? lol. unless my info is not accurate, thats bull****.
These are the numbers I found:
90-91 Civic/CRX Si-R EF-8/9 ZC 16 Valve DOHC VTEC 1595cc 10.4:1 c.r PGM-FI MPFI 160 bhp @7600 8200 rpm 111 lbft @ 7000 If thats not the right engine, thats why I'm asking my question regarding how to get the one that fits. |
That can't be the right info.
Honda Civic CRX SiR from JPN had a B16A engine and the lower models I believe had the ZC. I used the have the SOHC ZC non vtec and it was close the to DOHC version and I can assure it wasn't a 160hp monster. |
don't do it. its not a monster. save and get a b-series.
if you want more torque and hp, go with an ls/vtec, not much more $$ and u'll be more than happy with the results

going up only a few ponies and a few ft lbs torque really wont be "quite a difference"...
i think you may find yourself a touch more than disapointed. with the dropping prices of B series engines, imo, that's where your money would be better spent. even a b16a gen 2.. they go for 1500-ish now, complete. and, like others have said on here - d15's, zc's....all are aging motors. the days of "50k engines" doesn't exist anymore...how many engines from 89 and into the 90s REALLY honestly have 50k or even close to that anymore?... hell, even drop a b16a2 into your car. blammo, sir ahoy, and it fits your gen of coupe. best of luck choosing..but..patience is key... dont just jump on an engine decision cuz you want it now.... |
number one its not 160 bhp and even if it was because your car weighs as much a two crxs what do you think the power loss is gonna be.
that info u have says SiR EF8/9 which are JDM codes for the crx and civic hatch, which came with 1st gen B16's.....so the info is correct, but some lower models did did have ZC's in them but as stated earlier, no vtec and certainly not 160hp...... SiR usually automatically is always b16, never zc......and i have never heard of a zc powered EF8/9
