LEITNER, this one is for you..

ok, I recently picked up a b18c, needed rings & some headwork, ok, i got the head back, it burned 2 exhaust valves from severe carbon deposits ---- bad rings..

I pulled the rod bearings, took out the pistons, and ordering piston rings..

My QUESTION is....when replacing the ROD bearings/Main bearings can i use the bearing lookup chart and matchup color so use the same size bearing that was in there before?

when i removed the old bearings they were in great condition, no to little signs of wear, no scoring on the crank or bearing.

just want to change these for peice of mind..

oh, are the thrust bearing? thrust washer the same size on all GSRS?

yes you can. But i would always plastiguage to make sure.
You might even be able to see the colour on the side of the old bearings as you take them out.
If not, check the letters on the crank and numbers on the rods for the rod bearings sizes and the numbers on the crank and letters on the block for the proper main bearings.
Again, make sure to plastiguage to check the clearances. You can get plastiguage from crappy tire or part source. Unfortunately, it only comes in packages of 2 red 2 green strips and you only need the green strips.
Make sure not to rotate the crank while plastiguaging. A peice of paper and pen will also come in hand to make notes.

Make sure not to rotate the crank while plastiguaging ???

why

thanks zeeman for the help

i also need a bearing lookup chart if you have one.

zeeman 08-May-2006 08:57 PM

if you rotate the crank when you are plastiguaging you will smear the plastiguage (instead of just crushing it) and you won't be able to get an accurate reading and you will need to do that journal over again.
Search honda-tech for a bearing look up chart, or buy a helms manual they have them in there. I don't have a scanner or a link to one handy.

well...
i would use the colours that were in there (they are on the sides of the bearings) and ya you should plastigauge them which is real simple to do but takes time.
