Labour Prices for Engine Build
Talked to a few shops regarding building up the head of my motor and 1 shop quoted me
595 dollars for port and polish, 3 angle valve job (valve grind) and assembly does this sound reasonable? or is this too much?
sorry dont know prices of these things so just trying to find out what it would normally cost.
btw i would be supplying all the parts.

it's really hard to say Jay, cuz some port and polish can be $100 by a guy in his basement and a Dremel, or some P&P could cost $1000 with flowbench results. So it really depends on how many hours they spend on it, and if they do flowbench testing after.
take a look at their work, how clean their shop is, and finally, based on their reputation. I personally like to see high end tools and equipment throughout the shop, digital torque wrenches and such.... a nice clean shop, along with a dust-free (almost like a paint booth) assembly area. but you won't find the dust free area in most shops... that's more for aeromotive engines like crossflow does.
take a look at their work, how clean their shop is, and finally, based on their reputation. $600 for p'n'p, valve job and assembly?!?!?!

I would make sure they know their dohc vtec honda heads. Its NOT all about taking away lots of material and increasing the size of the opening of the intake ports with the b-series. Just b/c someone can port a chevy or ford head doesn't mean they would do a good job on a dohc vtec head.
Call Gord Bush Performance and see what he charges for this.
Make sure to get the head resurfaced as well. And if you were planning on better valve springs/retainers to run larger cams, this would be the time to get that done b/c they have to put everything back together anyways.

portflow valve guides
omni springs
supertech ti retainers
buddy club spec 2 cams
str pro 570 cam gears
timing belt
waterpump
they are located in walkerton or something like that . They do rotary motors all day long well its two guys one guy specializes in rotary and the other guy in pistons.
they have an actual shop will machinery etc have delt with the guys a couple of times for other stuff but after inquiring about their job i found out they do this for a living.
so bruno what are some things i should ask for if i do get work done thru them? flowbench results what else?

I would think with a port and polish, the flowbench results of before and after would be most crucial. besides that.... it rests on their reputation.
it's kinda like body work... all you get back is a shiny looking car, god knows what's under the paint. it's the same thing with engines, that's why reputation is so important. unless they do the whole engine for you and you can request an engine dyno when they are done.
