KYB GR-2 Shocks

I'm planning to get my stock shocks replaced with a set of KYB GR-2 Shocks! I read some posts about these shocks and lowering cars! now I have a question, I'm not planning to lower my car right after i installed new shocks, but will these shocks be any good for a lowered setup? or i'll have to change them before i can lower the ride?????? and does anyone know how smoth are these??

it depends on how low you want to go if youre gonna do a moderate drop like 1.5 " I'd say they would be fine but anymore than that, you would be better off going with KYB AGX's or Koni yellows/Reds

I would agree with Joker. I just got new springs all around and the kyb gr2's put in the rear yesterday. I would say everything runs great and the ride is wayyy better than what I had before. To comment on the GR2's, they give a nice smooth ride and work fairly well with cars lowered about 1.5" If your not looking for performance and just want a smooth ride, I would recommend the GR2's then, but if you want to take it to the track, then get agx or koni's so that you can adjust. If you want more info, just use TCC search, I'm pretty sure this topic has been discussed many times before.

gr2's are pretty much bottom of the barrell...they offer a smooth stock liek ride and aren't really made to handle anything more than a 1 inch drop (hence after that the warrenty is void)..the dotn' have stiff dampening so......I'd say for a better bottom barrel shock go for tokico blues...either way they will pop sooner or later, and the gr2's are pretty much a stock replacement shock.....they woudl be good with pro kit's for a smooth ride....maybe save up more and upgrade to somethign maybe adjustable like illumina's or agx's or yellows.....your choice make it wisey and what you want stock ride or performance suspension..choose a spring to suit your needs ie dotn' get race springs with gr2's cause it will ride like crap

I have agx's on both my crx's !

I love the way the car rides (and I'm using ractive coilovers on both cars !)

Your options are either Koni yellows or KYB Agx !

If you're still interested in buying GR2's, I will sell you mine for $325. They are brand new in the box. PM me and let me know!

i don't recommend GR2s on a lowered car...
at least nothing over 1" drop

D dot T, you're probably enjoying the ride because your previous struts were blown in the back... if you're lowered anymore than an 1" you got about another year or so until those are blown too.

I think all 4 of mine are blown... and am thinking about tokico blues. I've had them once, they are gas and non-adjustible.

Good/Bad?

oh thats just great.

i've been reading all over the place and ppl have been saying there pretty good for just ride comfort and no racing. Even Joe at Altech suggested them for me because I just want ride comfort and no racing. Now your telling me they gonna blow in a year. What the hell is the point of even changing the suspension then if its gonna blow anyway. My previous kyb agx's only lasted me 6 months and I was only lowered 1.5" in the back. If these blow too, then I'm not going to bother and just go back to stock. I can't afford to keep changing these things every 6 months.

Well...I don't think it matters what anyone from any shop recommends to you when the company that makes the product warns you about them being used with certain drops.

David, unless you do any racing or extreme driving like an idiot don't worry about it. I was dropped 1.5" on stock shocks for 2 years, these were the original shcoks on my '92 and they were perfect when i had them replaced with AGX's. I've had AGX's for over 2 years now and they're perfect as well. It's all in how you drive.

Thats nuts, were the AGXs new when you installed them?
you should have warrantied the struts then, if they leaked and you only had a 1.5" in drop, thats within warranty range they would have fixed them.

I have seen stock struts last alot longer than aftermarket

Yes, I'm waiting for the store to get back to me on this issue. My stock shocks lasted me longer than the agx's. I had my stock ones on for almost 2 years without probs until I changed them and when I took them off, they still had not gone yet.
