Question KYB AGX Install & Looking for a good quality Short Shifter???

Hey hows it going guys... im kinda new here soo bare with me.

I just picked up a set of brand new KYB AGX Shocks for my Civic and i was wondering if you guys could recommend a good place to get them installed? I had my H&R Sports installed @ Altech about a year ago but i've read that alot of you guys no longer recommend them sooo im looking for a new place.

Im also in the market of looking to pick up a short shifter soon and i was wondering what you guys have a recommend. I kinda like the feel of how the stock integra shifter compared to my damm civic, it feels sooo far and loose. I think a dual bend shifter is probably gonna be better because im guessing the shifter is gonna sit 2 far forward. im looking for reduce the shifting by about 30% to 40%.

anyways let me know....

Thanks in advance....

Take a look at this recent thread - many places mentioned in there with pretty good prices.

Try doing the work yourself. All you need is the Haynes manual a descent set of hand tools and a little know how. You'd be suprised how easy it is.

Welcome to the club.

If you would like to have your struts installed by a reputable shop, I'd recommend Speedtech. They are in Scarborough and they do great work for a great price. Or, check the thread above and contact Scott Newman or Scott93HBSi and I'm sure they could both help you.

IF you really like the Integra shifter, you can easily mod on to fit your car. http://www.d-series.org/forums/showthread.php?t=9772
Personally I have a Skunk2 which I'm very happy with, but everyone has their own opinions on short shifters.

i just don't understand the difference between all the different short shifters... are the Skunk2 ones better than the TWM or B&M or even no name i can't seem to find a site that can tell the differences.

btw does anyone here have or can they get there hands on a stock integra shifter, maybe i'll try that out first.

i also have skunk2 and i love it except for two things, both are from the install i believe.

1 - rattles alot in 2nd against exhaust, easy fix though.

2 - sometimes dosen't want to go into 4th very easy and is also alittle reluctant to go into 3rd fast causing some grinding. never had these problems with stock so i think its an install problem i'm gonna get fixed.

other then that, its heavy duty and works nice. really short shifts. i have the DC **** on it, but i'm thinking the skunk2 **** (440grams) would be better as it'd have some weight on the top like the TWM *****.

check around, got my skunk2 single bend off ebay $120cdn shipped to my door.

The more expensive shifters are made from steel alloy not from cheaper aluminum. They are stronger, heavier and less prone to breaking. They usually come with their own sealed bearing or a replacement one. I had a Solo before and it was ok, but it was too short in height and I was constantly reaching for it. B&M or TWM are both excellent quality and a decent price. Look in the classifieds for a Teg shifter.

Mine rubs the exhaust too, but you just have to remove the heatsheild after the cat or lower your exhaust a little. As for the gear problem, change the tranny fluid with Honda or GM Syncromesh fluid.

sane
I used a rubber grommet fitted over the shifter, just below the ****, but under the boot to hold it up.

okay soo i guess the brands to look out for are Skunk2, Solo, B&M and TWM.... im almost 100% sure im gonna have to get a dual bend because i've tried other short shifters in the past they seem to sit 2 far forward.

out of these brands can someone recomend which one they think would be the best i only wanna reduce the throws by about 30% to 40% and would a integra version fit my civic?

let me know thanks...

I'm using the Megan short shifter. It's inexpensive, and heavier than the rest (which is good..) It's not a dual bend one, only about an inch shorter than stock, and sits just like the stock one does. I highly recommend it.

i have a B&M short shifter and at first it was alot different but I love it. The shifts are shorter, feel alot firmer and i think it looks better with the shift **** lower. Only complaint was it rattled a bit before but now it doesnt. As for the shift boot mine sat slightly below the shift **** before, then i foudn that one of the rubber boots wasnt on the shifter and so i fixed that and the boot sits right at the base of the shift ****.

PM Astroboy and he can get u a B&M for a good price.

Im getting a Hurst in a few week's. I'll let you guy's know how that goes. Do you guy's like the **** being all low?.Personally I hate when its right next to the console/floor. Its too far fromn the steering wheel when its liek that.

just wanted to post a fix for the boot not being right up against shift ****. use a hose (garden hose, etc) that fits incredible snug (you only need 1" of it) and force it down on the shift lever. now if its the right size hose it will never move and it keeps the boot right up against the shift ****. i did this and now my boot touches my DC **** where as before it wasn't even close. you could also put a clamp on the hose if you wanted, but if its the right size and you have to work to get it on the shifter, you won't need it.

cheap fix

B&M dual bend...$60 ....shifts are clean and it feels solid... love it. And it's an easy install... do a search ...some past threads walk you right through it.
Good luck.
