did your knock sensor get tripped?
should be a cel code 23 if you pull it.

Try higher octane fuel, reseting timing to oem spec.

it's 93 cx... and using the cheap gas... not sure about the octane level.. it's always the cheaper gas at the stations

why rebuild or look for new engine? it's till runs smooth and everythign is fine......

if the motor is knocking then its toast... or will be toast very soon... i remember hearing that horid noise in my buddies d15... a few weeks later it had a snapped rod and a bit whole in the side of the block... not to say that'll happen to yours but just food for thought

a knocking sound doesn't mean it will break con rods. it means theres detonation or excess vibration. If you fix the problem before waiting a couple of weeks, then you should be fine and not have to replace the motor.

Head to Crappy Tire and pickup a code reader. If not, there is a method to detect described in Haynes manual. Frankly, I'd get a code reader. They don't cost a bundle, and save you time - which in this case - is of the essence..

knocking is often a spun bearing in the bottom end... you'd have to describe the knocking?

does it knock at idle too? cuz if so, I don't think it's detonation so better gas won't fix that.

now that you guys mentioned it.. it's more like a ticking sound... not loud but noticeable.. coming from the engine.... it's ticks at idle, not sure when driving cause the engine is loud

sometimes i'll have to drive it for a couple minutes then i'll hear it at a stop.

thanks for the help

k thats why i asked... the ticking at idle is common, its one or more valves that need adjusting... what kind of milage is on it... might as well take it in for a timing belt and valve adjustment.

nothing urgent, you can keep driving it, just schedual an appointment as soon as its convinient. dont put it off to long tho, or you will be into bigger problems..
