knocking sound...
I hear a knocking sound whenever I make a very sharp turn......only when the turn is sharp and i'm taking it from a stand still....

check your front end out
|
might be a upper, lower ball joint, or outer tie rod, or poss wheel bearing. Make sure your lugs are tight first.

my axle did/does the same thing.
It started out only doing it (clicking or knocking) when making a sharp turn from a stop, but now it clicks pretty much everytime i turn left. My axle boot has been ripped for over a year now and its just finally starting to get bad, i suppose i should prolly change it out eh. |

Yeah, if it breaks you'll be looking at a tow bill too!

sorry i'm not Mr. i'll go into debt for the next 10 years just to have snap-on tools, pos.
I'm in debt for the next 20 years paying off this house. |
atleast im a snap on baller.
Alot of my tools are master-crap as well though. lol 3 pry bars for $144 from snap pos. haha |
lol u guys are jokers.......
So how can i be certain if it's the axles?? and zeeman mine used to be just at sharp turns also but today when i drove it i noticed it comes pretty much when i'm making turns in general, and when the wheel is fully turned, no sound.....so only at a certain angle it makes noise, and it's loud |
check to see if any of the boots are ripped, chances are that they are and all of the grease has leaked out (usually all over the place).
If you are uncertain, take it to a shop, see what it needs, if its an axle, instead of paying a shop $300 to do it, go buy a rebuilt axle for cheap (even if its from CT its cheap enough) and 4/10 skill level (tops) to change an axle, takes me 30-40 minutes with hand tools on jack stands....bust the axle nut loose while the cars still on its wheels on the ground (a tip that'll save ya some frustration). If its a balljoint or tie-rod just have the shop deal with it, they'll be able to do an alignment too if its a tie-rod. Or have c-pos snap-on baller help ya out, hes in oakville close-ish to you, i'm sure he could change an axle in a couple of hours...lol |
I have the same problem right now....CV joint. Does it knock when you are on the gas and turning...That's what i have. Gonna do an axle swap soon.
MS |
its easy to check if its an axle. Normally the boot will be ripped, if the outter boot is ripped it will click/knock when you turn the wheel in that direction. If its the inner it will click while accelerating.
Just jack the car up, put it in gear and drive it.. if its an axle it will click/knock. Easy to tell. |

so yeah my passenger's side axle boot was ripped......so i went to my mechanic and he's changing both my axles for 160 installed including parts......i was gonna say couldn't he just change the boots but for that price i can't go wrong right? and i've known my mechanic for years so parts quality is never an issue......

well seeing as I get my axles for 73 a piece for rebuilt that means you are charged around 90 labour!
should have just bought both the axles and had someone on here to do it for a 28 or $50 too late now |
