K&N vs Ractive

Heya guys i have always been under the impression that K&N is the way to go and not just through advertisement.
but some guy i know is trying to tell me that a universal Ractive cone filters are just as good as a K&N filters minus the price for the name.

what are your thoughts???

the problem with Ractive and all of these other filters are the mesh that protects the filter element is not ss. therefore it rusts out. besides the fact that the generic filter element isn't constructed of the same material as the K&N. now, what your boy should have said is...if you buy a new Ractive, every year, it will last aslong as a K&N. if you are not a avid driver/racer, generic good enough.

you can't oil a ractive filter because they use paper elements as the filter... its not meant to be oiled... you need to oil cotton filters or cotton fibre filters like k&n...

still, in cfms... k&n outflows the comptetition... but for $65/filter???

i got a generic cotton-fibre pre-oiled filter from Performance Improvemens for like $30... comes with extra oil too.

I would rather sport a K&N than anything ractive in my car.

That K&N for $60 will last longer than most stuff on the market. Re-oiler kits are $15ish @ CT.
