just joined. my setup 56k NO WAY
just joined the site, thought i might share some pics. my summer fun car is my 89 crx si. here is my setup...
this is the intake manifold i built last year in preperation for the setup. i’m planning on replacing it with a new “tapered plenum” design at the end of this summer. http://img132.echo.cx/img132/3072/weirintake17aj.jpg http://img132.echo.cx/img132/4929/dsc007403nw.jpg parts for the new mani: http://img373.imageshack.us/img373/2163/dsc039364sb.jpg http://img373.imageshack.us/img373/7889/dsc039357zq.jpg http://img131.imageshack.us/img131/4634/dsc032186hx.jpg http://img131.imageshack.us/img131/2825/dsc032179ob.jpg http://img131.imageshack.us/img131/7055/dsc032200dh.jpg http://img131.imageshack.us/img131/5792/dsc032199yb.jpg http://img131.imageshack.us/img131/8196/dsc032216tm.jpg |
here is the manifold i made for my turbo. i made all the flanges...
http://img223.echo.cx/img223/4750/dsc031205cq.jpg http://img223.echo.cx/img223/1070/dsc031210yb.jpg http://img223.echo.cx/img223/4434/dsc031229ed.jpg http://img223.echo.cx/img223/8025/dsc031230ka.jpg http://img223.echo.cx/img223/1281/dsc031241kx.jpg http://img223.echo.cx/img223/7136/dsc031257xe.jpg http://img165.echo.cx/img165/9646/dsc031276ru.jpg |
i made myself a crossmember to cut down on wheel hop and also to replace the first one i made that i had sold. i had to make some mounts for the civic rad as well and modify the rad to fit too. when i have time, i still need to modify this cm so that i can incorporate the front engine mount again.
http://img232.echo.cx/img232/4776/dsc030165va.jpg http://img232.echo.cx/img232/9138/dsc030123vd.jpg http://img94.echo.cx/img94/9520/dsc030554pw.jpg http://img94.echo.cx/img94/6480/dsc030606rb.jpg http://img94.echo.cx/img94/967/dsc030627lr.jpg http://img232.echo.cx/img232/4170/dsc030149py.jpg |
here is the downpipe. i wanted to incorporate the wg into the dp to save a bit on room. it ended up turning out ok, but it is a little crooked and i will have to modify it to mate it to the cat a bit better. i also intend to get rid of the cat and run a flex pipe section there instead.

one of my biggest problems to overcome was fitting the intercooler. the core is 26x12x3. i wanted to use a 22x9x3 but bmc was out of that size. i made my own end tanks to reduce piping. as you can see i had to make some changes in order to fit it. i didn’t want to modify the bumper either.
some mocking... http://img246.echo.cx/img246/2985/dsc030413yl.jpg had to cut the front a bit to make room. http://img94.echo.cx/img94/21/dsc030511jy.jpg here is the new front frame piece that i made. it is removable and has to be so i can get the intercooler in and out. http://img118.echo.cx/img118/939/dsc030762lt.jpg http://img118.echo.cx/img118/4240/dsc030795zt.jpg http://img118.echo.cx/img118/7287/dsc030821xm.jpg http://img118.echo.cx/img118/4353/dsc030862dg.jpg http://img118.echo.cx/img118/8373/dsc030883wc.jpg http://img118.echo.cx/img118/671/dsc030911kt.jpg http://img118.echo.cx/img118/1536/dsc030894nq.jpg mock up with the intercooler core: http://img118.echo.cx/img118/6294/dsc030974yx.jpg |
the reason i went with a custom intercooler was so that i could minimize the amount of charge piping. here is how it came together:
first design the endtanks: http://img273.echo.cx/img273/963/psetiso1wq.jpg had my brother make some forms out of mdf. http://img273.echo.cx/img273/4144/dsc031704ou.jpg make a template out of paper. http://img273.echo.cx/img273/8219/dsc031714yw.jpg http://img273.echo.cx/img273/8621/dsc031729lq.jpg trace it onto some 16 guage aluminum. http://img273.echo.cx/img273/6278/dsc031746vi.jpg cut it out. http://img273.echo.cx/img273/331/dsc031761ey.jpg |
|
trace the hole on the other side and cut it out, weld the pipe to it and the weld it to the core.
http://img273.echo.cx/img273/7431/dsc031934li.jpg http://img273.echo.cx/img273/7631/dsc031944fo.jpg http://img273.echo.cx/img273/6780/dsc031958ey.jpg http://img273.echo.cx/img273/3390/dsc031974te.jpg http://img273.echo.cx/img273/6083/dsc031839un.jpg http://img273.echo.cx/img273/2685/dsc031844qi.jpg http://img273.echo.cx/img273/1482/dsc031850ui.jpg |
put that sucker in! no modification to the bumper or bumper rebar was made.
http://img134.echo.cx/img134/3078/dsc032079ri.jpg http://img134.echo.cx/img134/8523/dsc032089jh.jpg http://img134.echo.cx/img134/7682/dsc032105yu.jpg http://img134.echo.cx/img134/2694/dsc032142bl.jpg i made the end tanks a little on the narrow side. i have another core i may make another intercooler with and widen the end tanks out a bit so the pipes aren’t so tight against the rad on one side and the oil cooler on the other. the next obstacle to overcome was how the hell do i connect these two together? http://img134.echo.cx/img134/3558/dsc032038dr.jpg solution: one special “ghetto bend”. this thing took forever to make because after each piece i added i was checking to make sure i was going in the right direction to make it fit. http://img134.echo.cx/img134/7325/dsc031995cg.jpg http://img134.echo.cx/img134/3735/dsc032005fr.jpg http://img134.echo.cx/img134/280/dsc032058xo.jpg |
