Just how loud?

Hello,

When I bought my car, it came with straight piping from the engine to the exhaust , which was super loud. to reduce the loudness (because I don't like the "bee" sound it makes when I rev high in a high gear) I got a resonator put on. This dramatically reduced the sound of the muffler at least 75%. I want a sound that doesnt sound like a typical tin can sounding like its gunna blow up....u know, that ripping and popping sound. I like the sound with the resonator on, but I was just wondering, if I got headers put on, how loud would that make my car? would it basically bring the loudness to its original state when I didn't have a resonator?
I want a low rumbly sound, nothing like a crazy ripping sound...what do you think will happen if I put the headers on?

You have to have a header on your car! How can u have a pipe going right to end of car?

Ruff_Rever 28-Jul-2005 08:47 PM

I have a stock manifold right now, the header is a performance upgrade...

imported_G2 Speed 28-Jul-2005 08:56 PM

huh? no a header isn't a performance upgrade it's something that every car has lol

unless i'm not understanding your post

Whiplash 28-Jul-2005 09:10 PM

yer not getting it..

exhaust manifold is what is referred to as the oem piece
header is the after market version of such..

dunna think the header'll pitch ya up to where you were at but ya, expect a big hit once yer at WOT

sweet,
well i wasnt sure which to do with the exhaust system cause i originally wanted to get a new catalytic but its apparantly illegal on typical road use. So i'm hoping that maybe with the new resonator, and new header i could have a nice sound....maybe lol:shrugs:

SteveZ 28-Jul-2005 11:21 PM

get the longest resonator possible and a quality muffler. it shouldnt have too much of a high tone to it.

hi-flow cat. converters AREN'T illegal

Ruff_Rever 29-Jul-2005 12:25 PM

They aren't illegal? but it says on ebay that the hi-flo catalytic is for "off road use only" on the auction page, and that it will not pass emissions??

imported_kIeRaN 29-Jul-2005 12:50 PM

well, u haveno catalytic converter on there rite now, that is wayyyyy more illegal then having a hi flow cat on (which is not illegal)

[1sL0CiviC] 29-Jul-2005 03:23 PM

those r for the fellows down in the US probably...their emissions testin is different in different states so...they rather label it not road legal

Xscorpio 29-Jul-2005 03:37 PM

lol ebay, no hi flow is not illegal, and if you get new catalytic, that is also not illegal.

Well not illegal in ontario at least.

i got my full custom exhaust done from GT exhaust in pickering all the way from my jdm headers to sexy dc muffler dual silenced, i have no resonator, but i do have hi flow cat, and makes sexy sound real deep and LOUD with no cracking or ripping sound when i rev.

make sure u have a right inc of piping usually 2.25", cus if you dont then you will lose all the back pressure, and then it makes cracks/rip sound. i could be wrong on that but i think thats how it works.

Ruff_Rever 29-Jul-2005 03:43 PM

wicked, thanks for notifying me that its legal! im definatly gettin a high flo cat then instead of headers. ( for now anyways)

oh and by the way, my muffler setup right now: 2.25 inch piping, greddy exhaust, and intake is short ram

Dr.K 30-Jul-2005 02:41 AM

I have a 2.5. I LOVE the crackling gurgling sound. I live for it....lol.
But it's not as bad as I let on. I have 2.5cat,resonator and muffler and its not that loud out of Vtec. Your only 2.25 so you'll have no worry's. As long as you have a muffler and resonator your all good.

2.5 or go home!
