Just bought a '95 JDM D15B. Want to know more about it.

I just bought a '95 JDM D15B motor and drove it to my buddy's shop.

I picked it up to replace the D16y8 I blew up on Wed, and the motor is going into my '96 tomorrow. Hopefully this motor will be in my car for quite a while (as long as I don't kill this one too...), so I was hoping to get AS MUCH information regarding this motor as I can. I've done all the searches for info and everything, but I hope that I can some great info from the D15B owners and otherwise.

Anything you guys can tell me about my motor will be great. Feel free to discuss anything, ie. specs, potential, building, boosting, etc...

Thanks.

Curlybandit.

117psi means that motor is junk too. Weither the rings got stuck, or the seats are toast... the motor is crap.

Normal would be around 155-175psi for a d15b.

oh well, for D15B, if you want more power, you do need to boot it. after all it is a 1.5L engine. No doult that it is a good engine, but more work need (money) to make it more fun.
but good for you

Small turbo + 10psi and its fun time up until around 200hp things usually begin to snap.

P.S. Where did you get it from and what did you get for how much?

Well....

I wish I could say that this little saga has a happy ending, but it doesn't..... While we were in the process of putting in this motor, we noticed that the block of this D15 didn't have the location for the knock sensor like the y8 (just above the coolant neck, above the oil pressure switch on the back of the block). Turns out that the '95 D15 has the knock sensor located in the distributor housing. Guess what didn't come with the motor.

This D15 is a OBD1 motor, my car is OBD2. In order the prevent the ECU from tripping all kinds of codes, you need to either convert to OBD1 and program it to ignor the sensor etc... (more cash), get the distributor that DIDN'T come with the motor (more cash), or try to make a home for it on the block (no cash). We tried option 3. No luck.

So where did I get this motor you ask? At Lucky Star on Ingram Rd in Toronto. When I talked to the guy on the phone, he told me the motor was a '96 JDM (3-stage vtec), and therefore whould have been essentially a direct bolt up. When I showed up, it turned out it was a 95. "Oopps" he said, his mistake. But he assured me that it should be a direct bolt up too. $684.00 and a whole Saturday morning later, we took out my old y8 and realized that this D15 wasn't useable. I returned the motor (in pieces) but only AFTER I had to argue with the guy to return it because he said his shop was closing at 1pm, even though one of his guys told me earlier that it was at 2pm.... grrr.... I got my money back.

So now I got a car with an empty engine bay, and a skid full of y8 parts. Luckily, I've been able to find a guy with a y8 for sale, so this should make life a little better. Too bad it's during the holidays, otherwise I'd have this thing bought and in right now.

Moral of the story, I don't like Lucky Star.

PS. Merry Christmas everyone!!!!
