JDM Engines

How can you tell the engine is from Japan and not USDM? And how will you know exactly how many km is on the "new" engine?

Thanks,
Mike.

you don't know, that's the great part about it... pull a number out of a hat, and that's the mileage on the 'new' motor

i think all jdm engines are just B18b or B16b or B18c where USDM and CDM engines are B18b1, B18C1, B18C5 so the JDM engine would have no number after the letter.

no, your cluster isnt gonna know how many km's are on the engine. The only way to truly know is to remove the engine yourself from the car and check the cluster when you remove the engine.

the jdm motor will not have an EGR valve near the intake manifold.....if you see it, it is USDM if it does not have one, JDM!

I forgot where I read this but in japan, they consider 70-80k on a car is a lot where to us its nothing. I'm not sure if thats true or not?

prolly has over 50000km's for sure if its a 94. I just hope your prepared to fix the problems you will most likely have. Expect to pay about $500-1000 to replace stuff thats probably worn out or no good.

If the engine is around 60-70k, there isn't much I need to replace.

Well it comes with:

- Motor
- Hydraulic Tranny (S21, Y21)
- ECU (P30)
- Axles with Half Shaft
- Shift Linkage
- 99-00 SIR Motor Mounts
- Alternator
- Starter
- Clutch
- Flywheel
- Intake Manifold
- Exhaust Manifold
- Fuel Rail
- Injectors
- Distributor
- Engine Harness
- Comes With All Sensors Needed

Umm...anyone know whether this complete swap comes with timing belt and water pump?

it should. But i would suggest replacing both the timing belt and water pump while the engine is still out of the car.
You never know how many km's on the car or how hard the previous owner beat on it, or how well they maintained it. Like scarlemthug said be prepared to spend some money replacing parts, mostly broken sensors. I needed to replace the thermoswitch, evap purge solenoid, water pump, o2 sensor, clutch was pretty much toast, flywheel was out of balance and the knock sensor was in pieces.
I don't think that i would buy another JDM engine b/c there is no history of the engine and you can't talk to the previous owner, and who knows how long its been sitting.
