jdm d15b... what should i do?

ok this isn't really a thread about what i should do to get power or anything.

Basicaly i have a car sitting here that has a jdm d15b in it. I know the engine runs but im not sure if its running as great as it should be. Im no pro at this stuff. Basicaly i was just wondering what kinds of things i should be checking on this engine to make sure its running great and won't give me problems when i swap it over to my car. its sitting in a car that no one is gonna be driving ever so i can pretty much do whatever i want to it.

So what do you guys suggest. This would basicaly all be a learning process for me but since the engine is there for me to play with i might aswell learn something.

id say, check the engines compression..do a leakdown test to know what the general health of the engine is...might want to change the timing belt/waterpump before droping it in also..
