wats the different between short ram n long ram intake?
which one is better?

long ram?? short ram intakes are just a tube coming off your throttle body then the filter is open in the engine bay ie sucks in hot air... a cold air intake is the same as a short ram only it goes into your bumper and sucks in cold air... cold air is better :thumbup:

Is there a noticable difference with a long CAI?

yes and no
but there are draw backs to cold air.
because they sit low to the ground behind the bumper you have to becarful about lots of puddles on the road after it rains as it can suck in more water than a short ram. also its takes a bit longer to get the filter out to clean it.

So in winter that's a no no...

What's the best option to go with?

cold air intakes theoretically make more power... but i honestly notice very little difference.... it just looks pretty on my engine and sounds mean

thats why I have a cold air and a short ram...cold air for the summer season and short ram for the wet months

plus in the winter the warmer air that the short ram sucks in helps the car warm up faster...doesnt take as long to get out tha cold idle

does it really hurt anything to have a short ram though the winter?

short ram is better in winter than a cold air

but the engine itself has to get warm to heat the engine bay... so by the time the engine is hot enough to heat the engine bay it would be out of the cold idle thing no?

so whats the point of switching to the oem air intake in winter

I switch to OEM filter in winter, cuz i think it warms up quicker and the salt destroys my cone filter, damn thing pluggs up in no time, i end up cleaning it like once a month its such a pain... I dont care about performance in the winter so I just switch back, its quieter ect, especially with the wheels spinning all the time in the snow... and theres 0 risk of water ingestion, or condensation buildup with the OEM unlike the aluminum tube from going from ice cold to warm all the time...

ok so really its a toss up with hwatever you prefer? ive done many a search and all i see is contradiction, peoples opinions etc.

here in cali AEM is the only legal intake kit that i know of... so really its either fork out the extra money for a CAI, or chose the louder, cheaper SRI

i think im gonna go with an AEM SRI, but do you guys think that with the cali heat, a CAI will actually make more of a difference than it would to you, and thus, be a better choice for me?

it dont take too long for the exhaust manifold to give off heat...if u remember how carb'd cars had the hose coming off the exhaust manifold heat shield into the intake pluming to heat up the intake air so u didnt have to have the choke open as long...this is the reasoning that I use for a short ram or oem intake in the winter...but heck who knows if it helps much or at all

and who wants a salty cold air intake filter anyways?

they would be less difference between the intake air temps in cali then here cuz your outside air temp would be higher, closer to the engine bay temp... *IMP*Its really not that much hotter on the coast in cali then here at least for the summer months, when my buddy lived in cali lots of the time it was warmer at my place then in dana point, even in september plus we get lots of humidity here!

Just wanted to say that Winnipeg got lots of rain two days back, and two of my girlfirend's brothers friends hydrolocked their cars (went through a huge puddle with a CAI). Both cars shut off immediately, but one was started shortly after and something is not quite right with it. The other car is waiting to be looked at and had to be towed. I've ran my CAI since the middle of februrary and haven't had any problems (i'm a puddle dodger that has been lucky). CAI's are definitely better suited for the summer, with an exception being the comptech icebox.

thats what air bypass valves are for...60$ part, or 3,000$ engine...i would never run a CAI without an ABV!!! might as well quite denying the ineditable and just drive your car off a cliff, if ur not useing one in the rain...

I dont drive through puddles with my cai installed...infact I hate driving in the rain so I try to stay inside on those days

my old crx was another story though, I'd blast through 1ft deep puddles in that badboy!

well of course if your not driving in the rain lol no hydrolock... i mean people that drive in the rain and through puddles :p might as well just throw on a 200shot of nitrous and at least have fun with your engine:D

how about a 200shot of nitrous while driving through a puddle with a front mount intake!?!?
