which intake to get for winter?

i'm getting an intake soon

but which one is good for winter? cuz winter coming soon

cold air intake or short ram intake?

thanks

imported_italstallion 28-Oct-2005 03:12 PM

i would suggest a short ram because if snow gets around your intake filter on your cai and you park it somewhere warm like the garage it might melt the snow then when u drive it it might hydrolock your motor.but nontheless i wouldnt even bother putting an intake on for winter just keep it stock

imported_Green_Goblin 28-Oct-2005 03:14 PM

yea, Id say stay stock for winter then once its over..think about cai or short ram.

droppedatbirth 28-Oct-2005 03:16 PM

Yeah, might as well wait. I gotta switch back to stock soon.

when it melts it will drip off.. you won't hydrolock your motor like that.. you need to basically emerse the filter in water for it to suck up enough to hydrolock

Im keepin my home made cai on, lol

just gonna keep checkin up on it

yup.. rob's right. You need to basically have the filter in a puddle in order to get hydro-lock. But an easy solution to this.. would be a bypass valve. Honestly.. I have cai with no bypass, and I drive in the rain all the time. I've even driven through puddles (not huge ones) and nothing has ever happened.

But to answer your question I would just get SRI since it's cheaper. And don't get AEM it's a total waste of money.. all intake tubes are pretty much the same. Some may vary.. but honestly you won't feel the difference.

Neither. Remove the resonator from behind the bumper and put a K&N drop in filter in your stock airbox.

screw switching back and forth, u clean ur filter every year anyways!

if u want a CAI get one, i had a CAI for 2 years with no problem..
in the winter nothing!

but this past summer almost got screwed!!
so i bought a Bypass valve!

imported_rbjeepthing 28-Oct-2005 04:44 PM

Believe it or not Short Ram intakes make more then cold air too. So ya go with the short ram.

I can guarantee you, you will not feel the difference. And it is no where close to 10hp. That's what the companies claim.. but I read somewhere it's something like 7-8hp around redline, if that.

They perform better on high performance engines, but on a stock D, you won't notice anything. And if you think you do, it's just your mind playing tricks on you
