input shaft...

this is what it'll look like when its toast and has just leaked all your tranny fluid on the ground... this was a 99dx tranny with i'd estimate 60 000 kms max

rick im not even sure what im looking at! Try taking a pic that focus on the shaft rather then the metal behind it... Its funny that you are always coming up with tranny trouble where as i've never had any problems other the cv joints wearing out.

i dont think dx trannies were designed to rev with a z6 engine, the clutch itself wasn't to bad considering it has been slipping due to oil being on it for a week or so...

i know the pic sucks i was just cleaning out the digicam and thought i'd share

is it bad when you gotta big hole in your inner boot and all the grease is all over the bottom of your car and your joint started to click like a can with rocks going around a corner for a couple months and then it started to make that noise all the time so then you start redlining it every shift to drown out the annoying clicking sound????

btw...still hasn't broke and it's been a year

I think the DX trannies can rev that high.. did the input shaft bearing (inside the transmission) go? they are a known "issue" witht he 6th gen trannies.

internally i've been told the dx trannies have nothing on the Y8's... and based on that tranny being mint and 1.5 years later toast i'd like to agree with it... my z6 tranny had 260 000 kms before i changed that and the only reason i did was cause i got a sweet deal... but alas honda started using new bearing on the 6th gens and perhaps thats where the flaw is

as for what went wrong the input shaft bearing disintegrated... hense the hole around the input shaft and tranny oil all over there is play in the input shaft of like 3-4 mm from center

like I said thats the a known weak point on those transmissions... but they can still rev to z6's red line....
