i'm at cross roads...new motor, which route?
well my d16z6 has been in the car running for 2 and a half weeks now. it's running like a champ and i'm trying to decide which route to go. i thought about keeping it na and build it. it won't be that expensive because i can use a lot of oem parts. slap in some pm7 pistons and be up to 12:1 compression ratio. i've seen some pretty mean d series on h-t. esp a guy with a d16a6 with 150+whp and 130+ft/lbs to the wheels!
however, i got the chance to drive a boosted nx2000 with a boosted SR20 in it and i loved the feeling so much! going the boost route will cost more $$ but is it worth it on the d? i plan on putting ac in the car too so my goals are like 250-280whp when everything is all said and done. i know i'll need to build the motor because internals are good to like what...200whp? so instead of suffering major down time if i were to ever blow the motor which will eventually happen on stock internals, i plan on buying a seperate D16z6 and start building it up on the side so once everything is done i can just slap everything into my car without suffering much down time at all. this would probably take a year or so to finish the project because being a student sucks. keep in mind that if i were to build the motor everything will be done right the first time so it will cost me quite a bit to get all the parts together and then send it off to a machine shop.
in the end i would love to have a car that can run low 13s or maybe even high 12s. this isn't too important though because i would still love to hit tracks like shannonville or mosport just to have some fun. road racing just seems more fun to me. your opinions on the future for my little d16z6? i'll be satisfied with driving my d series na this year with just bolt ons so i'm in no hurry for a big bump in power. i'm enjoying the d16z6 quite a bit right now.

build it right the first time.. i am a fellow d series booster...
200 whp in a civic is plenty btw..
here is what parts you should aim for..
- d16z6 motor with y8 intake manifold.
- grab a gt28r turbo, or a t3 ball bearing - but considering you wanna keep a/c.. greddy kit maybe ur option.
- zex 59300 cam with springs and retainers
- 440cc injectors or dsm blue tops.
- stage 2 clutch with a 10-12 lb flywheel.
- 2.5 inch piping exhaust
- jrc intercooler
- if you plan to do the block you got the option of vitara pistons.
-while the motor is out..change the timing belts, water pump, tensioner pulley, get a new headgasket and some ARP headstuds
torqued to 60-65 lb/ft with some moly lube.
- and LOTS of TUNING!!
i love my boosted D...

is the GT28R any different from the GT28RS? i've seen a graph of a d16z6 with a gt28rs tuned by evans tuning and the powerband was WICKED. no i'm not going to do vitara pistons. people praise them but after lots of research i found that they are cast pistons and not forged. why spend so much money on building the block and then cheaping out on some vitara pistons? i want the motor to be reliable also, not just to make a couple of passes down the strip. kit is out of the question too, i'll be piecing the kit together and will be installing it myself. i've seen a couple of greddy kits installed on a few hondas at the shop where i'm doing my placement at and i don't really like it at all. this will be a great learning experience for me.

okay.. you mentioned building your d, na.. that is a huge no-no if your goals are 200whp+.. and fully built D won't yeild more than 170whp if you want drive it daily..
I would boost your z6.. see what it's like around the 200whp mark.. then go from there. You can get into the high 12s with a stock block.. but you'll need slicks and turn up the boost abit.
Anyways.. your goal of 250-280whp is very acheiveable..
you mentioned greddy kits in your last post.. dont spring for a greddy kit, build a custom kit. And yeah vitara's aren't the best idea, even though it is possible, i wouldn't recommend it since they are cast iron. I would recommend srp, they are cheap and will hold for your goals, tuney toy h-beam rods are also cheap and good for your build.
for your turbo selection i would recommend a gt28r.. a guy on turbod16 had a setup (srp, h-beams and gt28r) and he hit 18psi at 3500rpm and pulled hard untill redline.. he was making 300whp at 18psi. Their maps are also one of the best for our engines.

Boost it definatly. D's were meant for turbo :P
But do a lot of research first because all the info is overwhelming. It's more then just understanding the turbo itself, you have to understand all the components for a successful setup.

t25's are small turbos and won't yeild past 250whp (and thats pushing it) but I'm not going for peak hp, I want a fun daily driver.. I'm hoping my powerband will be awesome with this quick spooling turbo.
believe it or not when i get my dynotuning all said and done.. everything will cost me under $1900-2000

$$. i was planning to go after that route but i have to spend that money on other stuff. paint job, new rims and tires. plus my plans have changed for this car. this will become my dd in the future and i'll be building a next car after this one. THAT one i will go k20 . i thought about it and k20s are just too expensive for my budget right now. a turbo d16 daily driver will be more than enough for my needs atm. this car is just a car for me to play around with while still in school.
