if youve gotten a swap, ple read. need help!
 

hey guys
i blew my motor last night on the 401. im going up to a b engine, not sure what yet. i didnt want to do this for another year but am now being forced to.
just wondering what anybody here in toronto did about insurance when they got their swap, and what about etesting and cert will it pass?

or are there any insurance companies that will take modified cars or ones that just dont ask?

You need to call your insurance and ask them these questions.

Well don't worrie i got my swap done and my car went into a hotrod category for the e test.

i really dont want my rates to change, im just wondering what companies others who have swaps use, and if theyve had problems or if they jsut didnt mention it at all

I didn't even bother telling my insurance company and I don't see why you would either. But I guess it depends on what engine your getting.. If you get a B16A2 then it shouldn'tbe a problem, just let the insurance company know your buying a new engine since your old one blew. As far as safety and E-test don't worry about that either. A straight swap shouldn't affect your safety if installed correcty. Also Honda motors runs so clean that when I had my E-test done it passed even being tested as a D-series.

hell i drove my hatch to my insurance company with it dumped, they saw it, said that looks cool, and on my way i went, they didnt care, i told them the motor was stock even tho its from an EG

thanks for the responses. and just so everybody else who wants to answer kmows, i am completely fine with not telling insurance if i get something bigger than a 1.6. im just wondering if that is the popular way to go....which it seems to be :thumbup:

Just hope that insurance will still handle the million dollar lawsuit when you get into an accident and they realize you were driving a highly modified civic without telling them.

3000 ish for b18c1
4000 ish for b18c5
1100 ish for b18b
500 ish for d series replacement

well basically. ive been looking at prices and i wasnt plannin gto do this for another year or two so im kinda getting thrown into it and have to do it quick but i wanna do it right. i wanna go b-series. and basically from all the insurance talk i can get a b16b or b16 from a CDN SIR. i really want a gsr, the only thing holding me back is mentioning it to insurance cuz itts bigger which im fine with not mentioning it.

also can someone tell me the correct term for the engine that comes from a Canadian 99-00 SIR/USDM SI? all i see is b16a2 which is usualyl followed by 92-95, so it confuses me. and then i see b16a3 which comes from delsols?? can you set me straight once and for all on what to call the 99-00 b16 engine? like seriously if someone has one, what does it say on the engine???

i got a gsr swap... and i am already bored of the power... i was bored after like a week... if you like power, then you will be unhappy with a b16... i already need a turbo now... then i should be satisified...

Should of went with an h22 swap. Im still havening a blast with it.

You will never be satisfied. You will get the turbo and you will want a bigger turbo later.......guaranteed.

Or

You will look at doing a K20 swap. If you are already bored, you will continually look for ways to increase your power.


Back to the poster, do your research, see what it is you exactly want out of your car to do, daily driver, track race, drag. Once you determine what you want to do, then research what is available, pro's, cons.

This is an perpetual ongoing question that you really need to find more info on your own, then ask specific questions.

For insurance it depends on yourself. I have never told my company about a motor replacement, and they have never questioned me ether. And after an accident I had no problems with coverage, but to each their own.

A motor will not affect your safety, only your emissions. Besides if the car is already in your name why do you need to worry about another safety?

If you go with a b-series or any other motor you should not have any problems passing emissions, unless you decide to gut your cat or something. I've never tested a car as a hotrod, never even asked about it, yet all of my cars have passed the test without any major issues.

what other mods have you done to your car? ... have you reported them? ... if not, and you ask about the engine, they will be suspicious ... of course if you have your original parts, you can always pull the old "back to stock" routine in case of an inspection

well i think u can always say it's STOCK motor since it is original motor from Honda but just it was used for a different car? lol..

insruance will cancell your policy if found out if its the only vehicle in that policy you will not be able to be insured again for a ceratin amount of time
