if you know STARTERS..help

its happned mayeb twice in teh last week...not everytime...wheni turn the key in the morning its starts and there is a slight grinding sounds when its starting..
i know its the starter or something related to the starter...and teh car turns over fine...i just wondering what that sound is..and no its not me turning the jey and holding it..haha..thanks for teh help

might be a spot on the flywheel that's worn down..seen it before..
or the teeth on the starter are wearing..
bendix might be sticking..

well its only when starting liek as i turn the key and it only happened twice.......sorry but bendix?

Yeah, the bendix is the thingy that kick out the gear to engage it to the flywheel... one of those got eaten! you can remove the starter, check and lube the bendix, and remove your spark plugs, then rotate the engine by hand while looking through the starter hole checking for worn flywheel gears. If it happens to fail, give it a light tap with a hammer, and it'll start

but this is only happened twice when i turn the key..
never when i am driving.
and there is no problems starting ..just wierd sound

that seems odd to me though....the flywheel isn't even engaged during start up...and if it was the bendix wouldn' it happen when i shift

No, the bendix engages the flywheel and the starter...it's a gear that like jumps out to start the car, and retracts when the car starts, else your starter would always be running LOL... That's why, if you've ever tried to start the car while it's already running, you get that god-awful noise...that's the starter gear enganging on a flywheel that's already spinning. Get what I'm saying... think of it like a clutch between the starter and engine.

i get it now..completly...well its stopped making the noise it happened twice...if it happens again i will check it out..but itsbeen starting with no problems now...thanks for the info...

if it's been okay for a bit then i'd say it's probably a few worn teeth on the ring-gear (flywheel..)
see how she goes..

maybe just get lightened flywheel for teh hell of it......7lbs

I agree with the stuck starter. could be starter over-turning. solenoid maybe be tweaky...
