Idling too low

I just recently noiced that my car is idling extremly low. When the engien warms up and i drive around until the engine is at decent operating temp, the rpms drop drastically when i'm am parked at the lights in neutral. Used to idle at 7-88 rpms, now it drops to 3-4rpms at neutal. I also nicticed that when i give it some gas that the lights get brighter and the heater blows harder. Could this be a altenator or battery problem possibly?

The things is, i jsut removed my subs, amp and cap for the winter. I never had n e problem while they were in and the system was pumpin. Just started happening now. How much do u think a new alternator goes for if that's the problem.

your car idling real low causes the alternator not to provide enough power... have your ignition checked out - esp your distributor cap and rotor. again, YOUR ALTERNATOR IS LIKELY NOT the problem.

I agree with Bruno, most likely weak spark.

Unhappy

I got it looked at and it turns out that i did need a new distributor cap, new wires, and new spark plugs. While they were at it, i got em to flush the coolant, replace the trans fluid, brake fluid, new fuel filter, air filter, tire rotation, and new brake lines.................$500

I had the same problem with idling too low.
I just cleaned the throttle body and tightened the cable, and it's better now.
Also, the added throttle response lol

that's not the case on the 6th gens... the low idle is a classis 6th gen sign of a weakening ignition. Plus it happens instantly - not gradually so you know it's an electrical failure of some minor sort.

As for the wires you did get j00ked - my car's a 98 and still rocking the originals, and I tested them at 1K ohms I'm sure yours would have checked out just fine.

Thw wires werea a part of their tune up, whether they replaced them or not, it would have cost the same.

$500 though??? .... I did all that on my car with OEM parts (except the wires and the brake lines - I didn't need those) for $110... I even did a valve adjustment and new valve cover gasket, and 2 extra oil filters to stock up on.
