Idling Problem...

I have this problem for awhile now. I have done almost everything that I possibly can done on the car for the past year and a half trying to fix the problem, but nothing seems to help. I have recently change the Cat (Universal), hoping that will fix the idling and engine light problem. Engine light is ok for now, but the idling problem is still there. I am now thinking of changing the TPS senor, just wondering how much would that cost be, and what other options do I have for this problem. Thanks for the advise and hopefully end my nightmare for good.

i forgot the number, I think it might be 71 or 74....something is running too rich in Band 1. But even i changed the Oxygen sensor, the engine light still pop back on and off all the times.

any modifications on your car? Look... don't change things randomly on your car, it'll be cheaper to take it to Honda and have it diagnosed right in the first place. There are testing procedures for each sensor, so if you suspect a bad sensor, TEST IT before you replace it. Unless money grows on trees?

What type of idling problem is it?

is the engine stalling on you?

does it idle to high?

do you have a "hunting" idle, such idling real high then back to almost normal then high again?

if you could describe what kinda idling problem you have it would help.

http://www.ef-honda.com/ben/

In the tech section of that site there is a idle trouble shooting section. it helped me fix my friends B16's idling problem. I know its an EF site but its got lots of good info.

The idling problem mostly occurs at start up (cold engine). once the car start moving and I stepped on neutral to change gear, the idling either drop to really low or stall the car. But normally after I step on the gas paddle hard (like 3500 or 4000 rpm on neutral), then the car seems to go back to normal again. But sometimes I find the idling is not consistant at all, because sometime the idling is low (around 100-200 rpm on the gauge) sometime is nromal (700-900rpm on the gauage). Anyway, i think I might have to let the dealer check it first then fix it. Thanks again for all the help.

Car is pretty much stock, except the usual intake, pressure gauge. Also, I have a final gear done two or three years ago.

my car was idling funny ... when it was cold it would idle high and kind of jump, after the car warmed up it was slightly better but still bad... turned out to be the injectors

Sounds too low to be a vacuum leak. Possibly IAC. If you don't know, it is almost always cheaper to take it somewhere, than guess and replace the wrong parts.

I will check the IACV and the TPS this sunday. I always felt my engine sounds funnyanyway, but is really hard to describe what's going on with it. Is like someone step on the gas paddle slightly and back off the paddle, so you can feel or hear the egine is moving (like idling moved slightly and go back down) somehow. Don't know man, let's check it out on sunday first. Will see.
