ideas for ENGINE SWAPS!
Alright folks... I got a bone stock 98 civic hatch and I wanna pull that itty bitty d16 outta there and drop in a DOHC engine. The question is.. which engine? and why?
So here's your chance to share your vast knowlegde of Honda engines with me. Let me know which motor I should drop into my EK hatch, and why. Don't just say "go with a b18." ...tell me what makes the b18 a better choice than the b16. Is one better for boost than another? What are the best options for an all-motor set up?
My point is - give me details. And if you or friend have done a swap recently, give me your reviews.
Remember, the chassis we're talking about here is an EK hatch, and the car is a daily driver.
Hopefully this thread can help out alot of people considering a transplant.
Thx

from my experience, I will go for B18.
I tried JDM B16A2 since its cheaper, easier to locate one. But I found that I really need more torque in daily driving.
Now having a C5, I love the torque, but my idea is to leave the engine stock until I blow it, cuz C5 is already very good in the first place to start off with, if you want to go allmotor and mod. the engine like pistons, cams and other things, better start with a B18C1.

There is no simple answer to your question(s)....it all depends on what your looking for from a motor swap and how much money you have.
If you want to go all motor, then do a b18c5.
If you want to run boost, then go b18b or USDM b20b.
For a daily driver go b18b or b20z.

also, i say go with a b18..nice and cheap, easy to find parts...and it likes to be poked with force

Show us the money, and we will tell you what you can get with it. There are tons of reviews on this board, just do a simple search and if you still have questions, then ask. Don't just throw ideas in the air and expect people to answer in an heart beat.
Quite frankly, no one cares what other people have under their hood because it is not their car nor is it their business to ask. If I sounded harsh then I apologize but I once asked the same question as you did and realize I don't even have the money to do what I want so why even bother asking. After that, I just do researchs on my own and frequent other car forums to get ideas and reviews. It will do your own good because too much asking without action will make you a talker, and some people don't like talkers.
Don't get me wrong, I ain't saying you don't have the mulah. You might very well have 10G at your disposal but tell us how much you want to spend and how much you have. And also, you don't just swap a more powerful engine into a bone stock hatch. You car can't handle it. I know cause I drive the same car and I wouldn't swap unless I target handling, suspension, wheels and weight reduction and the whole 9 yards first. And most importantly, with great power, comes great responsibility (sounds lame, but true).
Master your driving skills first (if you haven't done so).

Wow, you people are nasty. I wasn't looking for you to build the mother &**$er for me. Just looking to have a fun discussion that people can learn from.... thought that was the purpose of these forums. If I'm "waisting you time," then bugger off... go respond elsewhere. There are people who are just getting into the scene who would like to hear the experiences of those of you who know your ****.
Nevermind...forget I even asked.

BTW, you thought wrong... THIS forum is NOT for you to come leech information from us. The discussion stops being fun after about the 100th time the same question is asked.
You want us to share our experiences??? 95% of shops are crooked, a modified car is NEVER done, swaps vary from about $1200 (D16Y8) to $5500(B18C) in cost (so if you don't give us a balance in your chequing account, you ARE wasting our time), and lastly from experience.... ppl who ask these questions 99% of the time don't have the money to do it, because if they were serious about doing it and had cash in hand, they would do their own footwork.
