IACV and FITV cleaning ??
Hi All,
I have a d16Z6 that has been idling funny. When I first start the car in the morning I get a high idle (2200 rpm) and then it drops which is fine. After about 5 mins of driving, when i reach a light and idle, the idle almost drops right off but it does recover(barely). My main problem is that when I drive for a while and shut the car off for a short period of time (like when I'm filling gas or running into a store), the car wont start back up. If it does, it really struggles and vibrates pretty bad. In really hot weather it just doesnt start at all. So anyway, I found some articles on cleaning the IACV and FITV, will this help or could the engine just be on its way out? Sounds like a great place to start looking for your problem... I'm not sure what FITV stands for. But I would definetly check out your IAC and Fast Idle Valve (if you have one, it generally located on the bottom of the throttle body) When was the last time you did a tune up?
 |
Wouldnt hurt to clean out your IACV and check that the white plastic piece in the FITV is scewed in.
FITV = Fast Idle Thermal Valve |
Main relay might be the problem when it does not start in hot temps.

thanks guys.. hopefull i can find time to so it this weekend. I did a full une up about 2 months ago...
is there anything i should be careful of when taking off the IACV or FITV? |
unplug your battery... and go ahead. put the FITV back on correctly... I bought a used throttle body and this guy put it on backwards, and I didn't really check cuz it looked alright.... and I got coolant inside my cylinders (with the car running).
it's not hard, just pay attention. |
check for:
-proper seal of the throttle plate in the throttle body -clean the iacv w/ throttle body cleaner (it can also be opened up and cleaned -the fitv has a wax plate that you can screw back down after spraying some tb cleaner in there -check for throttle body gasket leaks as well as intake manifold gasket leaks. |
oh ya, check to see if you have the right amount of coolant in your car and make sure the hoses carrying coolant to your throttle body are not leaking or cracked!

thanks again guys! I'll try to get it done this weekend if i can..
