I washed my engine - and now it runs like ****!!!
My buddy and i decided to do an engine wash on my car because it was filthy (its a swapped motor in case it matters) but anyways we covered all the important things such as the distributor, intake, fuse box and altenator. We scrubbed it good and hosed it down a few times. I left it to dry overnight in my garage and this morning when i was driving to work i noticed that the car was shaking, and i lost a significant amount of power, when i stepped on the gas it was like the car was choking, and when idling it would be jumping...also the engine sounds weird, like it skips a beat almost like thump thump thump but very quickly...when im driving and i step on it its like the power kicks in and out faster then slower and so on, and it also idles very low and rough...
im going to my mechanic tomorrow but does anyone have any ideas what might be the problem? Im hoping once it fully dries off it will be fine...
by the way my engine check light has not come on...
thanks

man, i see so many of these "i washed my car, now it runs like crap threads" i don't know why people keep using water under the hood of the car.
Prolly got the dizzy wet or water in the plugs or something.

pull the spark plug wires out and blow them out with the compressor or something.
i did this before idles ok but when you give it gas it boggs and cuts out.
never again.

I had the same problme, just keep driving it, it'll go back to normal in a couple of days, mine lasted for about 4 days before it went back to normal, my engine growled , sounded pretty sick, i could gradually go up rpm on first gear till 6k really smoothly
no need to bring it to the mechanic unless ur car doesn't drive. if it drives and its just really slow and feels like something keeps cutting the power , it will go back

I did the same thing and the spark plug tube and chamber was quite moist.
You probably concentrated too much water around that area. On a D16, VC is on an angle so water runs off naturally. On a B series, it just sits there and drains away slowly, while a good chunk of it goes into the chamber.

No idea how so many people mess this up. I clean at least 2 motors a day at work with a pressure washer. I DONT COVER ANYTHING UNLESS ITS AN OPEN AIR FILTER. Never once have we had a problem with motors running like ***. Just dont keep the hose on anything electrical for a long period of time.
If you wanna be sure not to mess things up, just use elbow grease and a rag.
