i wana lower my ride!

hey all.

i just got my hammerheads on my 95 hatch, and they look awsome. the ones in my sig are photochopped in.. my digi cam is gone for 2 weeks so i cant take pics of my car, so dont think that the rims in my sig are how it really looks like... but anyways.. i wana lower my ride, so what is a good way to do it wit out spending too much money. i wana lower it about an inch, maybe an inch and a half. i was thinkin about gettin some springs... but i also saw that there is a kind of clamp device that clamps down a part of ur stock springs to make the ride lower... does anyone know if they are reliable? well all i need is some info on lowering my ride. i read some old fourms so dont tell me to go read them:P!

thx.

the photochop looks very nice.

As for the springs, you should use the search feature. This topic has been discussed many times.

Everyone will say, when it comes to suspension, DON'T skimp, or don't do it at all.. Stock shocks will not be able to handle springs very well and the ride quality will go from bad to horrible in no time.

I don't know much about pricing..

You don't necessarily have to buy new shocks when you buy springs. You can ride with lowering springs on stock shocks for a while.....ie. 6months.

What happens if your stock shocks blow...it the car still drivable?
If mine blow, can i raise the car all the way (since i have coilovers) to improve my ride?

I've had race springs on stock shocks for about 2 years now...and it still rides like new. I've heard a lot of horror stories though, maybe god just has mercy on me because I am a poor student.

If you want a decent shock/spring combo for a 1.5" drop you will be looking at around $800 - 900. I'd say that a fair assumption. You might be able to save some cash though by getting some stuff in the classifieds or finding a cheap installer or doing the install yourself.

Don't go cheap cus you'll just end up buying better stuff later on.

Coilover means two things. The coilovers that are on race cars are a spring shock combo. If coilovers cost much less than $1000 then they are the other coilover which is a spring replacement that allows you to adjust ride height. Those coilovers will sit on stock shocks but they tend to have really high spring rates so they would be a bad idea with stock shocks if you don't want to take chances. If you want to lower your car by just a little bit you could probably keep your stock shocks if you went with H&R OE Sports which only lower the car about an inch but are stiffer than your stock springs. If you go with the H&R Sports, which I have and lower the car by 1.75/1.5" you should probably get shocks but I'm sure there are many people who have them on stock shocks with no problem. I replaced my shocks with KYB GR2's which were cheap because they are essentially OEM replacements. I find that they give me a really nice ride and the mild spring rate of the sports is fully damped. Or you can get performance shocks which will make for a harder ride.
