I think Pinky is dead

Stats
Name: Pinky
Make/Model: 1995 honda civic hb
Problem
So a few days ago I left my headlights on at work. Jumped the car and everything is fine. Then yesterday I went to start it and it started then shut off. So I started it again and it was fine so I drove to work and back. Today I went out to start my car and it won't start. It chugs but no start. The radio, alarm, doorlocks and lights work and everything but Matt told me it might just take some more juice to start it so I got someone to jump me. Still no start. So is pinky on her deathbed at 215000km or can she be fixed?

why dont u just get a new battery?

Cynikal.Mindset 30-Jul-2006 03:05 PM

check fuel pump is priming, main relay also check for spark...this heat has been killer on cars...many things can go wrong but all are fixable

try a new battery, it might be your started, but the best thing to do would be check the voltage of the battery,

1. Battery
2. Starter
3. Alternator

4. Main relay
5. Fuse(s) and Relay(s) under the hood.

check it all, haha...:)

It wont be fuses or a relay, she said it started when she got a jump start...

1. Battery
2. Starter
3. Alternator

If she turns over, more than likely it's not your battery...also, if she turns over, it's not the alternator cause even if the alternator is dead, the engine will draw power from the battery until it's dead too. But, if it started, ran, then shut off automatically it definitely sounds like something in the distributor or it could be a pooched fuel pump...check for spark and fuel pressure...I think it sounds like there is no spark and would more likely be the ignitor or solenoid. Check for spark then PM me with your results.

Cheers,
Buddah.

I had the same experience as well, I think its your starter :)

Cynikal.Mindset 30-Jul-2006 08:48 PM

the starter turns the engine fine, starter is ruled out...its spark, or fuel

cap rotor.....start with the small stuff
battery alternator

dingus888 02-Aug-2006 10:56 AM

so it cranks...?

is it gettign fuel and is it getting spark

if no fuel it could be pump relay etc

if no spark disty or fried rotor and cap

imported_plzbeleiveit 02-Aug-2006 12:39 PM

when you turn your igntion do you see your engine light come on and then you should hear a click as it goes off.

On hot days like where having now im 100 percent sure its the mian relay, if you have a old in their its so common for them to just cook. honda has them for 78.00 bucks.

imported_weiRtech 02-Aug-2006 01:48 PM

you still may get spark and it could still be a problem with the distributor... i've seen where the set screw has come loose on the rotor and it was still spinning and providing spark to the plugs but out of sequence... now who here can tell when they are checking for spark if the sequence is correct when you turn it over? i know i can't. this only takes a few seconds to check, just take the dist cap off.

no civic dies with 215,000 on the odometer...1,215,000 maybe...haha

Surfofpink 05-Aug-2006 03:47 PM

turns out the timing belt broke and the pulley. haha im a loser. cost me $400.00 boo that

cee_mon 05-Aug-2006 07:09 PM

Its the main relay...happens all the time in my new beater car. Kick the lower fuse box under the driver side dash as your trying to start it.
