I need to replace my muffler.

Ok, I have a 91 Si Hatch. I need to replace the muffler. If I buy a replacement muffler, does it need to be welded? Or can I do it in the drive way and just bolt it on? I was under the car looking and I *think* it can just be bolted on as long as the muffler comes with the tail pipe already attached.

Also, can anybody suggest what the most inexpensive muffler may be for the car that can be bolted on (if that is infact possible).

Thanks in advance!

Steve

all those pipes starting at the cat leading to your muffler are bolted on. more than likely you'll need a torch to get those bolts off. try canadian tire or midas if you want the "cheapest" muffler. i personally would go OEM because they aren't that much more epensive.

OEM Si mufflers are pretty good, I would recommend that...ya, it bolts on, but you won't be able to get the bolts out...

yeah you can get direct replacement stock-like units. Go to NAPA and pick one up. it's around $100 or so for the direct bolt in muffler section.

As much as I would LOVE a performance exhaust, I'm not going to do that right now. I'll be finding out monday if I will be getting this job in thunderbay refueling helicopters for 12 weeks. If I get the job, my lil honda will be coming off the road and getting body work, repainted, transmission work, and possibly even and engine swap over the winter. I don't want to sink any money into parts that I will likely be ripping off in less than 4 months time.

Yeah, I'm not going to totally rice it out right away, I just want it to look super clean to start and have it functioning like new again. I just love driving the thing. Since it's a US car, there is no rust on it anywhere but the paint is shot. And it has high miles on it, so it's going to need a new engine anyway, might as well put in the extra bones and give it a few extra horses. I honestly think that I'm going to keep this car for the rest of my life as my toy. I just love driving it. I took a cruise along the 118 last weekend. It's a great snakey road in the middle of nowhere, between Gravenhurst and Haliburton. I thought I had died and gone to heaven. But 108 hp just isn't enough to really have fun. Maybe down the road it will even get a turbo charger. But right now, I just want to keep it nice untill life settles down a little bit.
