I NEED HELP BAD ->>> Muffler problem

I need a little advice or experience.

I bought a ractive Muffler a while back, before I had anything else done. IT sounded fine. Not loud atall.

Then, I install Header, and have to remove the cat. With that, I got a 2" exaust as well. Now, that god damn muffler sounds like a can of tripped out bees.

I read around and was told to install a cherry bomb, like a resignator, and it did tone it down a bit, but she's loud .. very loud. ( The silencer fell out and I can't find it)

So, think if I get a more expensive muffler (Revolution, greddy, apexi brand), it will sound better?? I want it low, and not raspy sound. OR am I S.O.L because it's a honda with no cat.

Thanks people!!

With no cat it has a weird sound, I can't stand that raspyness w/no cat. Raactive exhaust arent that great if you want a low tone, go for Spoon exhausts if you have the $. The Apex I world Sport is nice too

that's your problem right there. ractive is not the best of quality and cant really be compared to the "name" brands you mentioned. i suggest you just get rid of the muffler and buy something else.

RAACTIVE

RAACTIVE's twin loop fake mugen is a piece of crap. Its fairly quiet outside, but INSIDE its soooo basssy that it hurts your ears. You get headaches and ringing ears at the end of the day.

Biggest waste of money ever, IMO.

Because of this bad experiece, I am so hesistant to buy a perf. exhaust. I think I will buy apexi ws, since we can get them from the US for 600 CDN+tax, without shipping (if you drive there.)

Our CDN $ is doing too good

YOu mean a high flow cat? I saw them on e-bay.. like 50 US.. but I was iffy..

I just think a good quality muffler would tone it down... hopefully.

Thanks for the opinion, BUT......what was done/not done to the rest of the system? Ie.....do you have a header? What kind of car? Engine? What about he cat? Do you still have it? Ect...ect...ect....

We need to know ALL the details.

Saying a muffler is crap.....and then we find out you have no cat.....did an engine swap.....have a header.......shift at 7000 + rpm's all the time.........

Do you see where I'm going with this?

When people leave out info, it gives the person reading the thread a potentialy FALSE impression of the product. Do the club a favour, anfd give us some more info. (The guy even said that it sounded ok BEFORE he did those mods.)

That goes for everyone else reading this post. Try to give ALL the info possible, or we can't help you.

Thanks.

With that said, all I forgot to mention is I have a d17Y7 in my 99 civic hatchback cx.
The car was built in the manifold. I do still have it, but would have to remove my header, and I wouldn't want to do that :P

N E more info you need, let me know!

Actualy, I was commenting on johnny23toronto post.

The reason why your's got so loud, was obvious. Get a cat/resonator put back on......that should help quit a bit.

A flow though design will only help a little bit.......it still alows most of the sound to pass though it....this is why it's so loud.....there's nothing to slow/help reduce the sound in the exhast system.

oh yeah, contact Racive directly.....(e-mail/toll free #) tell them the muffler never came with the cap/silencer. They might send you out one free of charge.

Just sound as if you are about to cry, and they might have sympathy for you.

Isn't the cherry bomb, glass packed, act like a resonator? I thought it would.. but that raspness... god. Makes me feel like my car is cheap.

I saw high flow cats on e-bay for 50 USD, but looks like the cherry bomb..

keep 'em comin'.

It came with a silencer, but it rattled lose and lost it.

I did write them, but no response. I guess I could try again.

No worries

Hey Pullover,

Your point is well taken, but in all honesty, since I didn't specify what motor, intake, header, etc. I meant, by default, that I had a completely stock setup at the time.

No worries

Serioulsy, I had a very unpleasant experience with that particular twin loop Raactive muffler. Mind you, the fit and finish was excellent - but the constant droning was too loud, too bassy, and migrane causing! Maybe their other models in the raactive lineup are way better, cause lately people are saying some good stuff about them.
