Not trying to argue or be smart just curious...

trade the motor worth liek 2gsss and another 4 in cash and do a k20 swap... then you will have some power and prob run high 12s...
i mean you ca build your c5 all yiou want, but it will never be a 6sp

Personally, given your restrictions (keep the C5) I would go for an NA build. Tons of head work, sick high end header, and a blueprinted bottom end with high comp pistons and ARP hardware for 9000 rpm operation. Perhaps even destroke it to a 1.7 liter so you can operate more easily/reliably at 9000 rpm. Then save a lil more and go ITB or twin carbs after for the ultimate cool factor. I dunno about the destroking, talk to LEITNER about that... I just threw it out there as an idea to reliably rev almost like a motorcycle would.

melted pistons
jks...
still, i would be hesitant about boosting anything in that high compression range... if he wanted to boost it, at least put some slightly lower compression pistons in, even a 10.1:1 or something like a gsr and 10lbs would be nice... while he's at it some forged internals and the usual arp goods... and well, i don't see how much further you would need to take it. Or boost it, when it blows then do the above.

dude, lots of people boost their C5's.
I'm with bruno, go n/a build. Although he doesn't want to pull the engine out, so building the bottom end is out of the question.
You don't have to go crazy with the internals of a c5. Mill the head a bit, get some adjustable cam gears and pretty much any cam you want. It'll have enough compression to run any cam you want with good results (provided you have a stronger valvetrain). Spend the money on a good header and nice exhaust. Headwork (if you can afford some downtime of pulling the head off and sending it to the machine shop, would really make that ITR scream with some JUN III's or something.

i don't mind pulling the engine out, i just meant i'm not pulling it out to the people that suggested i swap my c5 with a c1 and just boost it
and i should be able to afford some down time in the summer when i plan to get this project underway since my co-op job will be providing me with a company car that i can drive in the summer =)

oh, i've heard plenty of success stories and most of the horror stories are because of bad tuning or someone cheaping out and well that makes sense. if he gets some serious tuning or at least someone that knows what their doing (aka zeeman) then you're good.
and if you don't mind pulling it out, whether you go n/a or turbo, do internals and if you can do the headwork so you wont have as much downtime if you do it all at once.
also, im with the above for the na because nothing can compare to vtec screaming at 9500rpm and when it gets there faster than you can scream your mommy's name not once, for sure twice, and if you have cash a third time.
