hydrolock

last saturday after that heavy *** rainfall i accidentally ran through a very deep puddle of water, i have a CAI by the way and after i got through that puddle the car started to stall and make all sorts of weird noises. I turned the car off in panic and sat there for a while and went home after a few minutes. The engine is still running right now but i'm paranoid that it has some damage on it, i'm thinking of switching to a short ram would be much safer, i hope the engine last till i have enough dough for a swap

doesnt sound good...you probably have some internal damage. but lucky for you it's at least still running.

If it was AEM did you have a bypass valve?

Is the car running okay?

There could be a chance of internal damage, I drove through that rain too, but I am CAI deprived.

If the car is running okay, thats definately a good sign.

By sounds of it, that huge splash of water cut off air flow for a bit, and you car ran really rich with out air to mix with the fuel...

Really depends on how much water actually made it up, because that throttle body get so hot that if its only a little amount or just drops, then they would evaporate almost instantly...

My guess is that the water mommentarily clogged up the filter, temporarily robbing the motor of air, thus forcing your motor to run a little overly rich.

I suspect that you really don't have that much to worry about.

I installed the bypass on my AEM CAI but I can't really tell you whether it works or not. I do drive my car all season and I was out in that rain the other weekend... I did get a tire puncture but did not experience any intake problems . I don't intentionally drive into deep puddles, but on the highway a car does get exposed to a lot of water -- considering the fact my car is still running fine after 1 year plus with the AEM CAI, I would say that it works.

I picked up the bypass as extra assurance. For the $40 or so it cost, I think it was a worthwhile investment despite the fact that hydrolock is highly unlikely.
