huge problem

just got my swap done etc, did it myself....took the car out on the road today and while doing 80km/h my crank pulley flew off, tossed my alternator belt and p/s belt off as well........i figured i was only 5 mins from home so i could drive it there then shut t off and re install the pulley, needless to say the car shut off 2 seconds later and it wont start. I look and the pulley etc that holds the timing belt on slipped off causing my timing belt to slip off, now i didnt hear any crazy noises etc. I just re installed the belt and tried to start the car but it wont start, just keeps turning over and over.......any ideas?

Im pretty sure if your crank pully went flying 100 yards your in big trouble. wow you coulda fried somthing.

coreyhayman 30-Dec-2006 05:30 PM

obviously, the crank pulley flying off isnt a big deal, the timing belt comming off is what im worried about. the car should start but run like ass even if i messed up the valves etc but it wont even turn over now. im gonna check fuses etc,etc tommorow

CoreyR 30-Dec-2006 05:36 PM

possible could of flooded the engine from trying to start it over and over.

question when u crank can u see the cam gear and the timing belt spinning as your cranking.

LEITNER 30-Dec-2006 05:37 PM

wow thats funny. you have messed your engine guy no doubt. the timing belt comes of or breaks the engine will be a hurting unit for sure... too much....

CoreyR 30-Dec-2006 05:39 PM

ive seen timing belts snap and everything is still good.

ya or maybe he bent a few of his valves and he has no compression???

CoreyR 30-Dec-2006 05:59 PM

^ good observation.

coreyhayman 30-Dec-2006 06:33 PM

yeah im gonna do a compression test on it tommorow, such a pain in the ass, the car shut off i didnt hear any crazy noises or anything, even when cranking now it doesnt sound weird except for it just wont catch and run. Also i can see the cam gear etc moving when cranking it, im gonna check fuses etc tommorow just to make sure something didnt blow when the belt came off.

my buddy just came over and did a quick test and told me my motors done, well the head, iv got no compression.....we put the car in gear on my driveway and it rolled like there was nothing stopping it. Also he could turn the crank pulled by hand and it didnt get any harder at any point which would also make us assume no compression. booooo

It's Kenny Rogers the Gambler.

or you set the valve timing wrong when re-doing the timing belt.

CoreyR 31-Dec-2006 06:15 AM

yeah thats just what i was about to say. that sucks dude all that labour.

coreyhayman 31-Dec-2006 11:18 AM

im pretty sure i got the valve timing right, i have the cam gearset at the up position and the crank lined up to the arrow on the oil pump.

imported_xplizitremix 31-Dec-2006 03:40 PM

i guess the protege won
:(

call me if u need antyhing but i'm out of comission for a few days too

imported_djtrini 03-Jan-2007 05:38 AM

same thing happend to my bro with his h22 accord at the track. For sure you bent valves is what I can tell you bro.

My bro's car did the same thing, would not turn over at all! same situation, crank pulley bolt came out while he was making his pass, and crank pulley went flying off.....and the car just shut off!

Sorry to hear about your badluck bro. Hope you get it back running soon!

iwanna93sihatch 05-Jan-2007 01:49 PM

Hey man well my buddie jus snapped his timing belt on his b18 while driving and he thought it would be ****ed we set the timing marks on the cam at tdc and the crank pully where it was supposd to turned it manually at the crank a few times an checked again an was still aligned after we tested his compression was around 180ft/lbs all accross an his car has 318k an it ran excellent when we started it so i hope the best for ya man

chris_si98 05-Jan-2007 01:53 PM

180 ft lbs? god damnit. That's one mighty motor.

iwanna93sihatch 05-Jan-2007 02:02 PM

Yeah man haha i was suprised as well the 1st cylinder was around 165 but the rest all read 180 after a few cranks

turbo___zc1 05-Jan-2007 03:16 PM

dont jump to conclusions first what motor is it?
if the pulley came off most like it has damaged the crank pully sensor if its damaged it wont start good luck
