I know there is a serial code on your motor that says b16a but how do you know if it is jdm or usdm, 1st or 2nd gen ?

On the block, it says the year the motor was made.

eg. 91

and the serial number will tell you if its JDM or not.

Doesn't J stand for Japan? So if your engine has a J to begin with, you know where it came from.

Correct me if I am wrong

There is another one of those green tags on your engine, a bunch of long numbers and letters. (like the one on your windshield)

Mine starts with J, I don't know but I thought that stands for Japan which means it came from Japan...

You have a JDM type ARRRRARARARARRRR yup, I lost my mind.

Why not go and take the serial number off the engine and call a Honda dealer and ask what it is you have? They have this thing... a database of information. It's hella better than guessing and asking ppl who have never seen your engine about what it is you have... do you have an LSD tranny?

Then at least your tranny is JDM, which would normally also indicate that the engine is JDM as well

The tranny and Engine were not done at the same time. The LSD was done AFTER the engine was done.

so the mystery continues...

That what you get for getting no documentation. I bought my Satty modded, and by God, this guy had all the receipts and a complete log of when the car was filled up, what the price of gas was, and how much they put in. Completely sweet!! I didn't mind paying extra for a car with that kind of history... one owner too!!

Histry of a modded car is they KEY!!

a jdm motor on the block u will see the engine code...ie; b16a on a usdm sir u will see b16a1...jdm motors do not have the last number designation yes 1st gen sirs came from japan only were on crx, civics...delsols were first b16 over here...usdm...
JDM is japanease domestic market usdm is united states domestic market.....gsr in japan is b18c in north america its b18c1....thst is how u know....when u are looking at the motor...some motors might be a 1999 motor but were made in 98...so the year number does not indictate alwasy teh year from which car it came from....

It is JDM 2nd gen Steve. Look on the block (below where is says B16a) and you'll see the serial number...it starts with a 5...that's a pretty good indication.

Also, the tranny is hydro, so that's another pretty good indication.

There is a million ways to tell.

You can also look at the valve cover for clues, and the plugs... but I'll let you find all that out for yourself.

What color are the harness plugs, and is the O2 sensor heated or not?
