How Would You Make A Homemade Intake?

Hey i've heard a lot of talk about homemade intakes...i was just wondering how i would make a stock 2000 Civic SE intake better then the one i have......obviously one would say just rip it out..and put a new one in......but how would you make it better? without spending that much cash....the current intake is a black tube that goes to the filter...

Ummm.... just asking that sort of question should really make you think about actually purchasing one... You shouldn't attempt to make something you don't understand... it would be like me asking on here "How do I clone an obedient copy of me... like a Me-Slave... I wanna do it in my basement on a budget of $35?" LOL

Hey bbarbarino .. chillax a little

here's an article, probably the oldest one around
http://www.teamdelsol.com/-howto-/-c...diycoldair.htm

it's for a sol but you cna use the same steps to make one for a 6th gen. you just have to alter the measurements a little.

a simpler mod would be to get a K&N drop in filter and yank out your intake resonator box.

yeah duy, thats the one I was going to build before, but opted to get an already built one for cheaper, but still a great design.

jdmfan.com also has some other great articles.

Jugglez,
ILL & CHILL BUT KEEP IT REAL, CAUSE THA ILLNESS IS ONLY THROUGH THE REALNESS!
LOL

Ya, the delsol article has been around forever. Sometimes though Duy, some ppl are better off purchasing a product. Can't assume that ppl will have the skill or the tools to custom manufacture a solid product for themselves, right? That's all I'm saying... I mean, where is he gonna get silicone hoses, mandrel bent piping... etc?

Mandrel Bent piping? from JC whitney web site, about $40-45 after conversion from USD price.

Rubber hoses: from Home Depot or CT. Very easy to find all the parts. Some exhaust shops even have the 180 degree bent pipe. for a good price.

Ya, and you can find a used intake for $30-100 easily That is why I say.... plus all the trouble of making it.

And rubber hoses won't do, they kink when you make bends with them and restrict flow. Samco silicone formed hoses are the way to go ($$$). Plus buying a filter, that's another $50 prolly if not more. Oh, and does JC W ship for free, and does UPS/FedEx not charge brokerage fees?? Just some things to think about. Lookin at the big picture...

You can use rubber hoses, they wont be bending, there just to connect straight pieces of pipe, there not used to connect 2 pieces and curver, the pipe is curved in the places already.

Filter $20 from AW. JC whitney does not ship for free, but the pipe is about $22 US there so around $45-50 after shipping/conversion etc.

IMO a great alt to buying one.

Here’s what you’ll need:

180 degree mandrel-bent piece of steel tubing – see notes below
rubber PVC pipe clamps – see notes below
K&N "Funnel Ram" Filter – see notes below
(1) can of Plasti-Coat ceramic high-temp engine spray paint – see notes below
3/8" ID rubber grommet, 3/8" OD piece of plastic tube (about 4" of tube), 5/8" OD (3/8" ID) piece of vinyl hose (about 12" of hose) – see notes below
Flathead screwdriver
Hacksaw or air cutting wheel
Electric drill with 3/8" drill bit.
Metal file and sandpaper

"The rubber pipe clamps can be purchased at any Lowe’s Home Improvement Store. They are made of durable, flexible, high-temp black rubber, and already have (2) stainless steel clamps integrated into the clamp. Go to the PVC plumbing section, and look for "PVC Pipe Clamps". The ones you need are for 2" PVC pipe. The clamps cost $4 each, and you will need (4) of them. "

I agree with bbarbulo
GOT the name right !!!!

YOur better off buying an intake. On ebay they have them for like $20 US , thats cheaper than making one for sure. I saw one like that a while ago. Generic is still better than homemade and I will believe this until i see dyones to prove me wrong
