don't think it matters.. JDM motors sit in massive junk piles getting rained on daily.

I would make sure that there is oil in the motor, so it doesn't seize or anything. Then stick it in a corner un a tarp or something. I stored my B16 for Almost a year like that with no problems

You shouldn't have any problems just leaving it like that in the basement. You're gonna rebuild it anyhow in the spring.

Even if you leave the oil in it, it's just going to sit in the pan anyways..

If you dont have a stand, try using a couple of old tires. Doing that right now with an Olds 400...weighs as much as a civic so you should be fine with your engine!!

just to piggyback off this, is there actually a procedure to follow outlining the correct way to store a motor?

I'm sure there's a preferred way, but the point is I don't think it matter. Unless you plan on storing it for years and years..

Get a big bag for it, oil the bag and wrap that baby up. You can also buy these engine bags pre-oiled.

you need to circulate the oil through the engine so everything gets coated then cover it up and store it in a warm place. dont use a synthetic oil because it will drain off all the parts and leave bare metal exposed in the engine but the fact you are storing it in a warm place will eliminate the chance for surface rust. leave the oil in or out it doesnt really matter as long as you circulate it bfore storage.

i wouldnt want surface rust in my rings. clogging the oil ring up and causing undo wear or blow by. everyone must think i am nuts but i like to have my engine in proper running condition.

I got some surface rust on the cam shaft, flywheel and whatnot, is that gonna screw things up? It is a spare engine.
