How much fluid required to change brake fluid?
 

Im going to be buying some Hawk HP Plus and ATE Blue brake fluid (dot4). However, I'm not sure how many cans I should buy of that ATE blue brake fluid.

Also, can I machine my rotors instead of buying new ones for my new Hawk pads?

i usually grab 2 bottles, if i dont use the 2nd bottle its always good for next years flush. Better to have more and not need it rather than need it and not have enough. Not expensive anyway.

I'd probably buy as much as I need only and not have too much left, because once you brake the seal with a bottle of brake fluid and store it, it can absorb moisture and become less effective the follow year (or two). But 2 cans is pretty dead-on for a flush.

For rotors, it depends on the mileage. If you've already machined them once, have an auto tranny, used them for more than 100K, or are getting a pulsating pedal when you brake, replace them. I am still in the process of learning the Civic mechanically, but I would think rotors are pretty cheap on these smaller cars, but if it's a press-on like the 1994+ Honda Accords are, it'll be a nightmare for a DIY! So if you have any of the above symptoms or are in doubt, replace them.

2 bottles is good.

I used the penzoil dot 4 stuff when i did mine. Highest boiling temp for non-synthetic fluild ;).


The rotors.. Just replace them its good insurance.
