How many crank turns does it take to start your civic?
Used to take me 1-3 turns depending on how cold the engine was. As of 2-3 weeks ago, it takes 5-6. Should I be bringing lunch from home to save money in anticipation of a catastrophe?
Probably a stupid question/problem but I thought I'd ask.

mine used to fire as soon as the engine turned.... now it takes 2-3 seconds sometimes. doesn't matter, the car is getting parked anyways for the winter, so I'll worry about it come spring. It obviously needs something.

I follow the manual's instructions on parking the car for so long... the owner's manual covers that.
I drove an SL2 last winter, I may drive an SW2 this winter... or something else I may "pick up" .

not anymore, the SL2 is sold... so now I have Civic, SW2, Samurai... and may soon have this Chevy pick-up It sucks having all this crap though... they all need constant maintenance, there is always something to do. Some days I just wish I could sit there and not do anything...

you might wanna take a look into changing it and/or alternator..

hmm, I think my battery is okay, starter too... then again, batteries die without a warning. I just got a new one 2 years ago.
I'm thinking maybe timing issue, but it's not consistently bad, it's okay a lot of the time.
I guess I got spoiled seeing how it always started instantly and now it takes a couple of seconds longer occasionaly...
I have no clue how to test the alternator aside from using a multi-meter to monitor the battery.

Ah HA! Bingo.
It's a fuel level thing. When my tank is less than 1/4 full, it takes longer than when it's full. I just assumed the fuel line is always pressurized rather than relying on gravity so it wouldn't matter how much gas there is. I guess I was wrong.
Alternators need to be changed? I thought that's just a small generator, there's no consumable parts in it, is there? just a magnet and some coils?
