How long do springs last?

Just a question? When I took my h&r's off to change my shock I noticed where it sits in the cup at the top theres a bit of surface rust on the coils itself. Is this normal? Ive had the springs for half a year now.

yes it's normal if the paint gets scratched... personally I'm replacing my OEM springs this year.....10 year old stock springs really start to not have the same spring rate .. going to get some new OEM ones ...

there is a saying Matt.... to know when it's time to retire a car. When the frame needs work, or springs need replacing, it's time to junk the car. That should give you an idea of how long springs last. I broke that rule, I replaced a set of springs on my old Jetta cuz both rear ones broke (I was hauling my Civic rims in the trunk), and the car went on to live a very happy life for 2 more years (albeit in someone else's hands). The springs should outlast the car in most cases, unless there is a defect in the material like there was in the Jetta springs.
