How to check for a blown shock?
I am purchasing a set of shocks from a fellow TCC member and was wondering how it is possible to check for signs of wear, damage, and functionability of a shock. I am aware of most the symptoms while driving, but was wondering how I could visually/physically check them. I already know to check for leaks and bad seals.

i usually just push the rod of the shock in by hand and watch it come out. if they all come out at a steady rate they are good
if one doesnt come out or doesnt get pushed in, its bad also look for signs of oil leaking from the shock also check out the seller's feedback if they have feedback from previous deals |
yeah, push them in and measure
1 finger its great, 2 fingers its good, 3 fingers don't tell your friends and 4 fingers you better get the hell out of there ("the shop of course") |
I dont understand this 1 finger, 2, finger, 3 finger thing.

just don't push the shock in all the way, stop with about 1.5-2" left as this is where the bump stop would not allow the shock to be pressed in further.
Some may come out faster, as long as all are pretty equal and they come back out all the way, your set |
