Ok I had to change the hood cable b/c it snapped on me. So I changed it and hooked it up but it wouldn't open at all so maybe it was too stiff so when I tried opening the hood again the cable came disconnected off the assemby so now I can't open the hood at all. Is there any other ways I can open it without the cable? any ideas would be great, thanx

This b/s happened on my bro's old 1999 Jetta. I took the front bumper off and cursed at it until it came open. However, considering that you can't do that cuz there are bolts at the top that you can't reach with the hood closed, I recommed getting a flashlight, screwdriver (long *** one), needle nose pliers... get under the car, roll up your sleeves and jam your hand in there from underneath and actuate the latch with whatever tool is appropriate. Next time, be sure the bitch works before shutting the hood. The way you test, is you leave the hood up, and just latch it with a screwdriver, then go inside and try to pop it. Adjust tension as necessary until it's smooth, then shut the hood and hope for the best.

well I tried it before closing it and it was engaging and disengaginf properly so I pu titi in and then it never opened POS!!.
Anyway I tried what you said before but it's a bitch to get my hand in there, my hands are both gushing of blood right now and my arms are all scrapped up of trying to open it. Anyway im going to have a couple of blt bagles and then im going to try again and let you know on how it's going. Thanx BB

Have you tried engaging the cable and having someone pull up the hood.



If it did work it would seem the hood latch isn't getting kicked out.

Had the same thing happen to my uncle last week.

Thats what fixed it.

Bruno's idea will work to but you will be cussing at the end..

Remember to grease it up good when you got it open.

I feel ya MBSi, I know what it's like to try to contort your hand like you're trying to jack pop from a vending machine LOL Keep at it... jack it up and put it on stands, get comfortable, lay on your back... if you have a work lite, that'd be primo... and just carefully get at it... BLT bagel Haven't had lunch yet... going now...

FIXED!!

94EG The cable came off the latch that's why I couldn't open it with the cable. I had nothing to open it up with, it was just the assembly itself holding it in.

So after my yummy BLT's I wen't back to work, jacked the front up and thought of bb and the long flat head part, so I grabbed it and squeezed my arms threw the bumper and I decided to disconnect the springs to let off all of the tension holding the hood it place, so I did so and POP
Hood opened, then I loosened the flat head part on the actual hood assembly piece to make it a bit looser b/c that's what was causing the problem, the hood was too tight and the cable didn't have enough force to pop it open. Now the hood opens and closes brand new like it just came out of the dealership
