honda cv joint or aftermarket axle?

Hi.

I am about to replace the cv-joint or the actual axle (my driver side axle) on my 96 lx because of clicking noise when turning and I would like to know which one of these two I should go with: original honda cv-joint or aftermarket axle (the axle is much cheaper compared to the joint, but is it wise to go for the cheaper part in this case, as far as reliability/safety goes)?

Thanks for looking.

just cuz something only comes with a 1 year warranty doesn't mean its only going to last 1 year it could last 10 look at the EF they came with a ****ty warranty and look how many are still on the road !!! look at home electronics they come with 1 year warranty's and they last alot more than that !!!!!!! the 1 year warranty is just because if there is a workmanship defect in the product it should show up within a year and can be fixed and replaced!!!!!!

depends on how much you love your car and how long you plan to keep it for.

in my case I'd go OEM on my 98, but in the case of my 90 Civic I'll go aftermarket.

Are you installing the part yourself or getting it done at a shop? It cost more to just replace the joint than it is to do the whole axle. I would just put in the entire axle as opposed to just the joint it will save you more headaches in the long run. Some aftermarket axles carry lifetime warranties.

Right, except in car parts, there's a safety issue, as opposed to home electronics, which is of concern to me. I was just looking for some feedback on the safety part of the problem - I am willing to pay more for the original part, if it's "safer", but on the other hand, why pay more, if I can get another part that would provide the same level of safety...
I was asking about the one year warranty because the guy I'm usually going for repairs/maintenance can get such axles, I don't remember the manufacturer, but they're coming with such a warranty.
Thanks for your input.

I love my car ok (but would rather say I'm trying to rely on my car )

Im not installing it myself, I'm not really a diy-type of guy, when it comes to cars... I have a mechanic I usually go for repairs and maintenance.

OEM for axles unless you need bigger stonger ones for high HP...

besides the price diff from OEM to aftermarket on 6th gens is almost nothing. A matter of fact i priced out rebuilt ones for my 97 at canadian tire and they were 20$ more than OEM... I went with OEM and saved money go figure

My buddy bought an aftermarket rebuild axle for his celica, the damn thing whines and makes all kinds of noise on the highway POS!

If it were an older car like a 4th gen id go aftermarket cuz theres more support (since more demand cuz more are replaced)

When you say OEM you suggesting I should go to a dealership and buy original honda axles?
My mechanic told me a honda CV joint costs $240+tax, as opposed to a new aftermarket axle, that costs $135 (manufactured bu GKN, if I'm not mistaken...).
What gen is a 96 lx ?

Actually, I was wrong: the cv-joint is manufactured by GKN (OEM?), not the aftermarket axle...sorry about the inaccurate info...

Thanks everyone for their input; I think I'm gonna go with the aftermarket axles; after all, when their time comes, before they break, they should warn me by doing the usual clicking noise

Correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't CT have axles with a lifetime warranty. A buddy has a set on his civic and last time we were at shannonville he broke his, drove to the CT in Belleville and replaced it on the spot and back on the track the next day.

Is the discount that significant?
I gave Parkway Honda a call (before reading your post) and they quoted me a price in the vicinity of $500 for a honda axle...
