High-revving b16 with turbo

it is possible to have a turbo'd b16 that can also rev high like 9k rpm +?
what is required to pull this off?

yup, i've got one....high compression too.

All you need is a turbo that will be big enough/flow enough CFM up top and a good valvetrain (valve springs/retainers) that can handle that kind of rpm and you're set (pretty much). If the cams you are using aren't gunna make power that high the turbo should help, but if the turbo is too small and its out of its efficiency range, then don't count on it.

thanks for your reply...
so using a big turbo, i guess id have not much power low end..
could i use a supercharger instead? would it continue giving me boost til the high rpms?

zeeman 24-Jun-2007 07:00 PM

i've seen a few supercharged b16s that were less than impressive, a b16 is too small for a supercharger. Superchargers take power to make power...meaning, if you supercharge an engine that only makes 150whp, its not going to be efficient enough to really make any sort of decent power with the supercharger.
If you want to boost a honda (more specifically a b16) go with a turbo charger. There will ALWAYS compromises when building a powerful engine/setup. If the turbo spools quick and makes awesome power down low, its most likely it won't flow the CFM up top to make good power, and the boost will drop off due to the turbo being out of its efficiency range. Fortunately, there are hybrid turbos (i.e. a t3/t4) that will help give you good low end power and quicker spool while still maintaining a decent powerband up top.

zeeman thanks for ur replies dude
so check this out when i first joined this site a couple weeks back i had just swapped the b16b into my car, and i still dont have the proper ecu for it and runs crap from idle to 3000rpm and overall i feel like i got jacked.. my mechanic is taking forever to get me the ecu and it seems as simple as obtaining one in the same day..
i feel sorta screw face taking my car back to him to finish up before i get someone else to look at it first..
do you think you could check out my car and let me know what you think i need to do?
i wouldnt mind paying you for your time.
