High Idle....

Car: Civic SIR

Problem: High idle (1500) rpm

Troubleshooting: I tried resetting the ecu which didnt work, then i played with the idle adjustment screw which worked a bit but the idle is still high. The idle adjustment screw is on the lowest possible idle setting. No CEL. What else can it be? It was working just fine until today. After resetting the ecu, idle goes to normal but after driving it for a couple of seconds, the idle goes back to 1500. The wierd thing is, when you press the clutch the idle drops to 1000, but then shoots up to 1500. Any input is appreciated.

Try removing the FITV (fast idle thermo valve). Its on the throttle body on the bottom and has 2 coolant lines attached to it. Actually just remove the throttle body and work on the fitv while its still attached to the throttle body. Remove the one end cover, it should expose a white wax peice that is threaded into the valve itself. If not remove the other end cover and you should see it. Then screw the white peice back down so that its as tight as you can get it. Put the cover back on and put the trottle body back on. This is a common source of a high idle on b16's.
Either that or you have a vacuum leak somewhere.
