high flow cat

Okay so iv been running with no Cat for a while with my d16y7

I Put headers on and this eliminated the cat. Ever since i did that my muffler made a loud annoying radiling noise.

So i got a magnaflow muffler thinking it would be able to handle the higher flow but this muffler still makes the raspy noise from about 3k-4k and then stops.

So im thinking puting a cat on will fix the problem but just want to hear opinions.

Also can anybody recomend any brand high flow cats or approximate prices? and best place to buy thanks.

Are you using a resantor?? Go with A Magnaflow cat. Do a search on them and you'll uncover all of the info you can shake a stick at regarding them.

I'd say it's the heat shield above the resonator...just rip it off.

I've put a magna-flow high-flow cat on all my vehicles except my civic, which will be getting one soon.

They are very good, never had any problems, and they sound great.

my test pipe makes so much noise... but it is one of those 3 piece ones and i think its cause it leaks where you attach the pieces together!

i have a magnaflow high flow cat, has been great so far. After doing mucg much research, it is the best way to go (affordability&performance). There are a lot of stories about them going bad after a couple of months, but much more of them being great.
But I will warn you, prices for these differ soo much from retailer to retailer. Ideally you should be paying 120-140 for one, thats without labour included.

Alright guys thanks for all the input.... I ended up buying a VIBRANT high flow catalitic converter from JRP today during that sale thing cause i got it for $66 which is a hell of a lot cheaper then a magnaflow.

Heres what vibrant wrote about it on their site and its made out of stainless so i think it should be good

Vibrant Performance Universal High Flow Ceramic Core Catalytic Converters are designed to increase horsepower by reducing back-pressure while still meeting all E.P.A. and C.A.R.B. emissions control requirements.

Iv been searching for reviews on it and have not found any yet. Has anyone heard anything about these?

vibrant makes those wicked jspec headers... they are awesome for flow... if the same brains that designed those headers made the cat then i think you are more than good with the vibrant one. is it 2.5"?

this is my 4th post about my cat.
its great
magnaflow hi flow cat.
thank you.

Oh and if i were you i wouldnt run 2.5'' exhaust sys. on a y8 motor.. unelss your planing on doing a swap or somthing. Its too big of an exhaust system for the power your motor actualy puts out.

The cat is 2.25 NOT 2.5 but my exaust piping is stock size. Not sure what size it is for a 99 dx hatch.

its a stock motor so i doubt upgrading the exaust size would make much of a difference

Your car would bogg down in lower rpms if you had a bigger exhaust system on a smaller output motor. Thats the only reason i suggested that.

Stock exhaust should be like 1.5'' or slightly bigger.

okay i just realized that the vibrant high flow cat i got does not have a hole for an o2 sensor.
I want my check engine light to be gone when i put this in. Is there any place a hole can be made for the o2 which would work properly for obd2 readings.

i just bought a magnaflow high flow cat today after reading this since my car had no cat when i bought it. i am really happy with it not only for the fact that its a bit quieter, but also the sound that does come out of the exhaust sounds more deep and less "honda zingy"...lol
