help: tranny fluid change
 

hey guys, i've been plannin to do a tranny fluid change myself for a few weeks now, and was gonna try some GM Synchromesh FM, but ended up gettin RedlineMTF. Most of the posts i've read on the net(honda-tech, d-series.org, etc) have had good reviews about it, with the few horror stories here n there though.

i've been reading the service manual on how to switch it myself.

i've tried searching but couldnt find exact steps, just the same basic steps as the manual, "pull out drain plug, drain oil, replace with new washer, take out oil filler plug, fill oil till drips, replace with new washer"

i havent gone under the car yet, i'd like to know a bit more on the process before doin so,

anyway...my question is, how do i refill the tranny fluid once i drain it? do i use a hose or somethin? a pump or somethin? i'll be goin to crappy tire for whatever it is i need.

well i haven tlooked myself so i'm guessin based on the pic in the service manual...but is this accurate? if i was to slide under the car from the front on my back, the drain plug is on the right and the filler is ont he left...any help is appreciated

btw, i'm basin the "left/right" of the drainplug/filler plug on the picture in the service manual, so if this is wrong, please correct me, thanks.

the drain plug is the one that a socket won't fit on...meaning the drain plug uses a 3/8 ratchet with no socket to remove/install the plug. While the fill plug is the 17mm (i think, it might be 19mm) plug a little higher up on the tranny.
You could use a funnel with a hose attached and fill it through the fill hole. Or you could remove the Vehicle Speed Sensor and fill it through there. The VSS is only 1 bolt to remove and is located in the top of the differential, some people prefer this method, but i've never had any problems filling it through the fill hole.
On level ground the tranny oil level should be level with the bottom of the fill hole (so basically full to the point where it doesn't drip out). Just stick your finger in the hole, you'll be able to feel the oil level. Its very important that the vehicle is ON LEVEL GROUND, not jacked up, not on your slanted driveway/road.

pft.. you dont need to stick your fingers in the hole.

zeepos is just used to fingering holes. Just fill it up untill it starts to drip out.

After about 2L pour it in slow.. so that all the extra fluid in the funnel/hose don't spill

Or if you don't want to drip messy tranny oil everywhere you could feel how much oil is in there with your finger.

c-pos is just used to having his hole fingered. :haha:

or you could put a catch pan underneath to catch the extra drips instead of taking the hose out every pour:shrugs:
