Help! My car's idling like crap!
I'm getting major idle fluctuations... even when warm, it jumps up and down between 1000rpm to 2000rpms back and forth, non-stop. I think it might have something to do with my IACV or something.
Prior to this, I was having unusually high idle already...like around 1500-1800rpms. I wanted to adjust my idle, but found it was super difficult to work outside in the cold. Tried removing the IACV connector but couldn't. Not really sure if there's something you gotta depress and then pull on...etc... (only worked on this for about 5 mins and then my hands were frozen, so I left it).
Anyways, my idle is just wack now. Jumping up and down... tried resetting the ECU already. Anybody got any suggestions?

Yup - it's more than likely IACV going on you. Mess with your idle control screw on your TB a bit and see if you can tame it.
Don't bother removing your IACV connection unless you have some way of accurately measuring your RPM (an no your stock tach is not accurate) Removing you IACV only allows you to measure your base idle speed, but if you have nothing to tell you that number - no point.
If/when it warms up you may also want to use some TB cleaner and give your Intake Manifold a quick blast...if you get really ambitious you can remove your IACV and clean it with TB cleaner... that may solve your problem.

Idle flucuation can be caused by more than 1 thing.. It's not necessarily the IAVC...
Bad ground, improper timing/fuel mixture can cause this elusive idle flucuation.
Better get it checked out before you go replacing expensive parts unnecessarily.

I had the same problem... my check engine light was on and the idle was 'bobbing'.
I took it to erin mills honda and they charged me $100 for a diagnostic, the technician said it was a 'dirty solenoid'.. whatever the hell that means.
1 week later both problems resurfaced. I took out my CAI and reset the ECU.. problem hasn't come back since. its a 98 si.
